GDPR Partner Marketing Campaign Playbook
“Privacy is often not taken seriously enough at boardroom level.
This regulation helps to put the importance of security into
context. Executives can’t avoid the risk of a data loss for ever.”

GDPR
What is it and
why it matters?
The EU General Data
Protection Regulation
(GDPR) will go into effect on
May 25, 2018. This impacts
every organization that does
business with EU
customers, regardless of
their physical location.
Organizational Impact: Organizations must appoint a Data Protection Officer, train stakeholders on handling
personal and sensitive data, and an approach for executing a Data Protection Impact
Assessment.
Cost of non-compliance with GDPR is significant. Penalties can be up to 20 million
euros or 4% of total worldwide annual turnover of the preceding financial year,
whichever is higher.
Industry leaders on GDPR:
“This is not a compliance or legal challenge; it is much more
profound than that. Organisations will need to adopt entirely new
behaviours in the way they collect and use personal information” - Ross McKean, partner at law firm Olswang.
“This will impact every entity that holds or uses European
personal data both inside and outside of Europe,”
- Stewart Room, cyber security and data protection partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
GDPR Facts ➢ Only 21% of IT professionals in UK medium and large businesses are sure about their
compliance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), while 18% admitted
that the matter "strikes fear into their hearts" - Netskope-YouGov research
➢ UK businesses could face up to £122bn in penalties for data breaches when new GDPR
legislation comes into effect - Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council (PCI SSC)
➢ Some 98% of cloud-based applications do not comply with rules introduced by the
European Union’s (EU’s) General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) - Blue Coat
➢ Cloud data security is still a major challenge for companies, with only one-third of
sensitive data in cloud applications being protected by encryption - Gemalto

Campaign
Overview
1. Campaign Objectives:
Our current GDPR campaign is designed to drive awareness among prospects and
customers about the regulation itself, its impact on critical email archiving and security
systems, and the benefits and incentives for being prepared once the regulation goes
into effect.
A. Promote Mimecast as an authority on data protection and how email systems are
impacted by GDPR, and the risk/damages companies face with non-compliance.
B. Show how Mimecast’s solutions help with GDPR management (without claiming we offer
a GDPR solution).
C. Assert third-party experts on a variety of platforms (webinars, research reports) to
augment education on GDPR.
2. Mimecast Position:
While Mimecast does not offer a specific GDPR solution, we do offer a complete email
administration solution that helps simplify GDPR compliance.
A. Security: TTP protects against attacks seeking access to sensitive corporate data that
must be protected to stay in compliance with GDPR.
B. Archiving: Fine-grained control to quickly respond to opt-out requests.
3. Data Segmentation
This campaign is ideally targeted to a mix of technological and economic
buyers in both SMB and Large orgs.
• IT Leaders (C-level)
• Compliance, Risk, Strategy, Legal and Business Continuity Professionals
• Contacts in financial services, legal, healthcare, local government
