THE GANESH FESTIVAL

Advertising & Sponsorship…

Decoration…

Waste Management…

THE MARKET… Estimate of Rs  1,200-1,400 crore worth of Ganpati-

related business will be conducted this year. Lalbaugcha Raja, one of the biggest and most popular

mandals in Mumbai, has a budget of around Rs  4 crore this year.

In Mumbai, corporate sponsorship forms a minuscule

segment of the budget of mandals -- just 5 per cent

Decoration costs range between Rs  2 lakh and Rs 1 crore

Homegrown FMCG major Emami has earmarked Rs

50 lakh to plug its food and beverage brand, Healthy and Tasty.

SPACE & MUMBAI… The space does not come cheap.  "Advertisers will

have to pay more for roadside ads and displays, which will be between Rs  25 lakh and Rs  50 lakh , while the rates for near the Ganesh idol or in the devotees' pavilion will range between Rs  5 lakh and Rs  25 lakh”

The average sponsor shells out Rs  2 lakh, to get

space on the back of stalls and banners.

Revenue from advertisements and displays will not be less than Rs  400-500 crore

Each Ganpati mandal pays Rs 2,000 as security deposit for the damages that it may incur during the 10-day festival. As the deposit amount has been waived off this year mandals have been asked to restore the road once the stage is dismantled.

If they fail to do so they will be denied permission next year.

Mandals refrain from putting up billboards and posters advertising ghutka’s, beedis and cigarettes. With this the mandals are expected to lose atleast Rs50 lakhs of advertisements during festivals as tobacco products are the main source of income.

BMC has removed total of 23178 hoardings, banners, posters and other outdoor materials in 24 wards

OPPORTUNITY

SPOTTING

Commercialization of Political Hoardings

Problem

Ganpati season marketing is not restricted to just restaurateurs and builders but political parties too want their share of the pie.

Political hoardings almost every street. Even signals are not spared and are not removed even after the event.

Eventually, it is the BMC staff that has to remove them.

To make matter worse these hoardings steal electricity to ensure their leaders featured remain illuminated through the night

Solution

Being the mediator between BMC & Political parties.

Commercialization of Political hoardings

Reason

Nuisance for BMC & Common public

Our city is the financial capital of India and we need to make it look better

The common man gets affected and ends up paying more for power supply since the power companies do not bear the loss.

TARPAULIN ADVERTISING…

Tarpaulin is used in huge amounts by the road side vendors, for covering the pandals.

The tarpaulin sheets can be used to advertise.

GANPATI DARSHAN…

During Ganapti for 12 days, the citizens of Mumbai celebrate Ganesh with a palpable sense of deep devotion, sanctity and fervor

Hence a tour can be organized for people interested in Indian religion, learning about the rituals & culture, photography, Bollywood and ready to share a journey with a community of like-minded travelers.

MODULAR DECORATION…

• Concept in line with modular kitchens

• Decorators can have a large collection of modular designs

• Designs to suit various sizes of pandals and idols

• Color options available for users

• Can be theme based or non theme designs

• Virtual software can be used to visualize lighting and colours

ADVANTAGES…

• Hassle free decoration planning for small & medium sized pandals

• Time saving since designs are pre-engineered and the raw material requirement is known

• Idol can be selected based on modulars rather than vice versa

• Ease of setup

• Cost reduction

WASTE MANAGEMENT

CURRENT ISSUES…

Ganesh idols made of white soil or shadu and Plaster of Paris (POP)

Idols made of wood, stones and iron cause obstructions in the flow of water

The colours used to paint the idols are toxic they pollute our water bodies

During festivals like Ganesh utsav, the city generates almost 30 - 35 metric tonnes of waste per month

POTS / BINS DURING VISARJAN…

Flowers, Fruit, Coconuts, Thermocols etc. also used during visarjan.

Large bins shaped as traditional pots which are kept near the visarjan spot.

The Volunteers segregate the domestic garbage into biodegradable and non biodegradable substances

Food items such as fruits and coconuts will be taken home by the women or distributed to the poor

Flowers will be recycled to make natural holi colors

Flowers will also be used for making paper

GANESH IDOLS WHICH CLEAN THE RIVER WHEN

IMMERSED

Making idols of the Lord from alum.

Alum is cheap, and can be obtained in quite a pure state at any drugstore, places it within the reach of every one

Alum idols can be immersed in tanks which in turn would purify water through precipitation and rendering it useful.
