No. 18 Arizona State (4-0) at No. 9 Oregon (4-0)
The Oregon Ducks look for their 20th consecutive win at home and 15th straight
victory against a Pac-12 Conference opponent when they host Arizona State this
weekend. Oregon defeated the Sun Devils 42-31 in Tempe last season. The
Ducks’ standout running back, LaMichael James, is doubtful
after dislocating his left elbow last week in a win over California. This is the first
match of ranked Pac-12 teams this season and could be a preview of the
inaugural Pac-12 Conference Championship Game.

October 10, 1998 — Purdue quarterback Drew Brees set a college
football record tossing 83 passes as the Boilermakers faced No. 10
Wisconsin. Brees recorded 494 yards and two touchdowns on the
day. He holds the single-game, single-season and career Big Ten
records for both completions and attempts. The Badgers won the
game, 31-24 in Madison, Wis.
October 11, 1975 — College Football Hall of Fame coach Barry
Switzer and No. 2 Oklahoma defeated No. 5 Texas 24-17 in Dallas.
With the game tied 17-17, Sooner tailback Horace Ivory took the
ball 38 yards for the winning touchdown. The win marked
Oklahoma’s fifth straight in the series and 25th consecutive overall,
helping lead the Sooners to the 1975 national championship.
October 13, 1979 — In a dramatic second half rally, Stanford tied
the defending national champions and top-ranked USC 21-21 in Los
Angeles. The Cardinals trailed 21-0 in the second half before
Stanford quarterback Turk Schonert recorded two touchdown
passes and one rushing TD to pull even. USC running back Charles
White led the Trojans with 221 rushing yards and two scores. USC’s
potentially game-winning field goal failed when the snap was botched.
October 14, 1950 — Reds Bagnell passed for 276 yards and added
214 rushing yards to lead Penn over Dartmouth, 42-26. Bagnell
became the first player in college football history to accumulate 200
passing yards and 200 rushing yards in the same game.
October 15, 1977 — Iowa State upset No. 9 Nebraska in Lincoln,
Neb., 24-21. Cornhusker running back I.M. Hipp recorded 25 carries
for 165 yards and three touchdowns in the contest. Iowa State
scored 17 unanswered points and shut out Nebraska in the fourth
quarter. It was the first time the Cyclones had beaten the
Cornhuskers in back-to back years since 1959-60.

The Big Ten is tied for the national lead with three conference
teams boasting perfect records through the first six weeks of the
season. These schools are Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin.
A national-best six Big Ten teams rank in the top 20 in scoring
defense, each allowing less than 18 points per game.
Last week’s attendance figures allowed the Big Ten Conference to
surpass the three-million mark in total attendance for the 47th
straight season.
Every Big 12 team completed regular season non-conference play
with a winning record for just the second time in conference
history. It also occurred in 2004.
Five Big 12 teams are listed in the NCAA top 15 for home
attendance with stadium capacities of over 100 percent. These
teams include Iowa State, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M and
Texas Tech.

Trivia
Ohio State at No. 16 Illinois
Sat., Oct. 15, 12:30 p.m. (ESPN/ABC) It was 2007 when Illinois last defeated Ohio State where
the Buckeyes were ranked No. 1 in the country. The Illini
look to snap an eight-game home losing streak against
Ohio State, and the Buckeyes are in search of their first
conference victory. Illinois is coming off a road win
against Indiana and Ohio State is in need of a “W” after a
collapse at the hands of Nebraska a week ago.
No. 17 Kansas State at Texas Tech
Sat., Oct 15, 4:00 p.m. (FSN) Off to its best start in 11 years, Kansas State will try to
remain undefeated as it battles the Red Raiders in
Lubbock, Tex. The Wildcats must find a way to defend
Texas Tech’s fast-paced offense. The Red Raiders leading
rusher, Eric Stephens, is out for the season after suffering
a knee injury in the second half of last week’s game.
Florida at No. 24 Auburn
Sat., Oct. 15, 5:00 p.m. (ESPN) Both teams have questions at quarterback. Florida’s true
freshman Jacoby Brissett is in line to make his second
straight start, but that may change if injured QB Jeff
Driskel is healthy enough to play. Meanwhile, Auburn
head coach, Gene Chizik is sticking with Barrett Trotter
to lead the team although he and the offense struggled
against Arkansas last week.

Standings
Tune in for this week’s games you won’t want to miss (all times MST).
No. 11 Michigan at No. 23 Michigan State
Sat., Oct. 15, 9:00 a.m. (ESPN)
This in-state rivalry could decide who wins the
Legends Division title and the Paul Bunyan Trophy is
on the line. The Spartans enter the game with the
No. 1 ranked defense in the FBS and will try to slow
dynamic Wolverine quarterback Denard Robinson
and its high-scoring offense. The Spartans have
won three straight against their rival.
No. 20 Baylor at No. 21 Texas A&M
Sat., Oct. 15, 9:00 a.m. (FX)
This will be the 108th meeting. The Aggies have won
18 of 20 against Baylor but have a tough test as they
try to contain Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III.
Griffin is the nation’s most accurate passer and ranks
second with a 212.9 passer efficiency rating. Texas
A&M is coming off its first conference win of the
season, while Baylor defeated Iowa State last
weekend.
No. 6 Oklahoma State at No. 22 Texas
Sat., Oct. 15, 12:30 p.m. (ABC/ESPN) Oklahoma State will try to remain perfect and Texas
looks to rebound after its loss against Oklahoma.
Longhorn head coach, Mack Brown has never lost
the week following the Red River Rivalry. Oklahoma
State’s head man, Mike Gundy, is undefeated against
Texas with Brandon Weeden as his starting
quarterback. Something will give on Saturday.
Storming from behind to record the biggest comeback in school history allowed the Nebraska Cornhuskers (5-1)
to earn the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National Team of the Week for games the weekend of Oct. 8. Nebraska earned
its first Big Ten win, 34-27, over Ohio State, rallying from a 27-6 deficit in the third quarter before a NCAA-record
315th consecutive sellout at Memorial Stadium on homecoming. The game turned on Lavonte
David’s fumble recovery that provided a short field for Nebraska, which
scored two plays later to get within 27-13. Taylor Martinez and Rex
Burkhead each ran for more than 100 yards, with Burkhead providing the
game-winning touchdown on a 17-yard burst with 5:10 left. Martinez finished
with two touchdown passes among his season-high 16 completions, one of
them a 30-yarder to Burkhead that tied the score with 7:44 to play. For more
