Chapter Director
Well, its been winter for much too
long!! Except for those who ride Polar Bear, members will be out riding before you know it. Our Officers have been busy planning the rides ahead. Let me remind you that you all have a voice in the Chapter and anyone wishing to make a sugges-
tion for a ride is welcome to attend a Road Captains meeting and present it to Russ. Let me say that I am extremely fortunate to be surrounded by such a fine & knowledgeable group of both appointed & Discretionary Offic-ers. You will be hearing from them throughout this newsletter, which will be published every other month. Our Assistant Director, John Medina will opine, as will our Head Road Captain Russ Hall and our Safety Officer Keith Ward.
You will also hear from our Secretary, Karen Austin, who has also been working very hard putting together the Ladies of Harley group. These people are extremely knowledgeable in what they do, so I'm not going to steal their thunder here, by writing about what they know best. However, I would just like to point out that there are two benefit rides in the near future, one in early May and the other in June, but you’ll hear more about them and other rides from Russ, our Head Road Captain. Finally, if anyone wishes to place an AD in this publication, the cost is $20 per issue or $120 for the calendar year. See me for further infor-mation. Here's hoping to see you at our up coming rides & events. Lets have fun this year and be SAFE!!!!!!

I am honored and excited to have been selected to serve as your Assistant Director. 2015 promises to be an exciting year for our chapter, as we settle into our new home dealership and as we welcome new members to the club (and some not so new members back). The E-board has been working hard to plan some great rides and events, so come out and support YOUR club. Invite your friends along and let’s have a great season!
Assistant Director
Chapter Secretary Welcome to Garden State H.O.G. Chapter’s Ladies of
Harley (LOH)!
We are a group of female riders, passengers and en-
thusiasts who are members of both National H.O.G.
and our local H.O.G. Chapter.
Our goal is to assist you in becoming an involved, informed and confident Chap-
ter member.
If you’re interested in learning more, our first LOH meeting is scheduled for Thurs-
day, 4/30/15, at 6PM. It will be held in the mezzanine area of Garden State Harley-
Davidson.
Looking forward to seeing you on 4/30!
Ladies of Harley Officer
Head Road Captain
Well the riding season has begun and we have already had a couple good rides . I want to remind members who join our rides that when riding in a group stay in your position until the rider directly in front of you changes lanes. If any one exits the ride, the rider directly behind moves up. Please listen to the road captain, he or she will give a short safety talk and some direction on travel route, prior to the ride. Do not leave to much of a gap between riders, as that is an invitation for cars to cut you off. However, if you see a car trying to get between you and the group, let him in.
I hope to see you on the rides, lets have some fun. Also, all members are welcome at the ride planning
meetings. Finally, please read our detailed Road Safety Rules located on page 6 of this newsletter.

Contact &
Safety Officer
Hello everyone!
It looks like April is the new
March.
Snow, Snow, Snow! And the first day of Spring; SNOW!
So lets hope it doesn't rain the entire month of April.
Well anyway, our HOG chapter has many new faces and
the chapter ride planners have already put together
some nice rides, with more in the works.
Our new website; (www.gardenstatehogchapter.com),
contains our calendar of rides and events, as well as
other useful information, such as meetings, events, La-
dies of Harley and, of course, safety tips and riding
rules, which we’ll elaborate on in the following pages.
You’ll also find contact info for the Leadership Team.
Things are looking good for G.S.H. in 2015.
So with the new HOG chapter comes new responsibili-
ties and I am excited to say that I am also the chapter's
Safety Officer.
With that said, I have some words on safety to share.
As you know, with winter coming to an end, its been a
brutal last couple months. Potholes, or moon craters
all over.
Be careful not to follow cars too closely; a pothole can
come out from behind a car so quick it can take you
out!
Take note that gravel is everywhere, it’s really bad and
we all know what gravel can do. Also, roads don't have
to be icy to be slick; the roadway can be just damp and
cold to cause trouble for a bike. Finally, CHECK YOUR
TIRE PRESURE!
So take your time and be patient for now...
Things will get better, soon....So till the next newsletter,
see ya!
P.S. Check out our riding rules on the pages that
follow.
Please read and become familiar with the chapter’s Road
Safety Rules in this newsletter. You should also visit the
Garden State HOG website; click on safety for more infor-
mation on rider safety and safety course information.
A Chapter member’s guest, whether as a rider or as a passenger, must
read, and sign-off on the chapter’s liability release form, before departing
on a ride with the club.

Road Captains
1. henever possible there will be two (2) road captains on the ride; Lead Road Captain and Rear Road Captain.
2. he Lead Road Captain will ride in the left side of the lane in front of the group. Please obey the road captains when they ask you to move to a different spot.
On Highway - Staggered Formation
(Indicated by waving hand left to right over head with two fingers raised)
1. eep a two (2) second interval from the bike in front of you in the same lane and avoid riding in anyone's blind spot, especially cars.
2. f a road captain drops out of line, for any reason, leave his/her space open so he/she can return to the same position in line.
3. f someone breaks down or drops out of line, do not stop on the highway. Obey the Lead Road Captain who will pull off at the next exit or safe spot and wait for the Rear Road Captain to return to the group before going any further.
4. If there is a space in the line because of someone permanently dropping out, move forward in the same lane you are riding in, passing the rider on your left or right to take up the space. The rest of the group will do the same, one at a time, until all the gaps are filled.
Changing Lanes (Group Riding Of Any Size)
1. hange lanes only during staggered formation.
2. hen changing lanes, the lead road captain will signal he/she is going to change lanes; everyone should then also signal.
3. he Rear Road Captain will secure the lane.
4. Once the lane is secured: the group will move to the lane from the front to the rear (don’t “jump” early.)
Being Passed Or “Cut Into” (Be especially careful when approaching highway Exit ramps)
1. on't challenge cars! When cars try to pass, or “cut in” our line of bikes
2. eave a gap for them to pull into your lane without cutting you off
3. emember...they are BIGGER than you.
Narrow Two Lane Roads and Toll Booths - Single File Formation

As one of the new-
est members to the
chapter I am, for the
first time in my 21
years of
riding, looking for-
ward to this year’s riding season as a HOG chapter
member.
So why, after all this time, have I finally
decided to join a local chapter? (I have
always been a national HOG member
and I became a founding member of
the Harley Davidson Museum when it first opened.)
I’d say that I’m always looking for new experiences
and new ways to enjoy riding, but this time I wanted
it to be closer to the Harley Davidson experience.
And you can’t get any closer than tethering yourself
to an H-D
dealership and a group of “bike” mined
people.
Also, the chapter experience is organized
and consistent and has a leadership team of knowl-
edgeable riders who work
to make riding more en-
joyable for everyone. You
will never be wanting for
a place to ride or some-
one to ride with, or asso-
ciate with a dealership
who provides all the best
Harley Davidson has to offer; a place to gather, eat,
listen to music and of course, the backing of trained
staff and service technicians, offering a multitude of
products for your bike, body and mind.
Riding a Harley is a soulful experience, you can’t beat
that torque, nor its sound, it never ceases to please
and sooth what ever ails you.
Ride safe and enjoy the season.
