G. Bickford Shaw, Underwriting Counsel of LandAmerica Financial Group, Inc., received his B.B.A. and J.D. Degrees from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. In 1984, Mr. Shaw founded Nueces Title Company in Corpus Christi, Texas, which grew to thirty employees who examined and closed title to more than 12,000 properties prior to his sale of the company. He was in private law practice in Corpus Christi from 1973 until he joined LandAmerica and has provided underwriting counsel and examination expertise to title agents for more than 25 years. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas and is certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in all three areas of Real Estate Law. Mr. Shaw is rated “AV” by the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, and he is listed in the fourth-seventh editions of The Best Lawyers in America. Mr. Shaw is a frequent lecturer on title insurance and real estate issues. He taught Real Estate Law at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi. Mr. Shaw served as chairman of the Texas Land Title Institute in 1996. He serves the Texas Land Title Association as a speaker at its regional seminars, The Texas Land Title School and the Texas Land Title Institute. Mr. Shaw is an active member of the Texas Land Title Association, and served as President of the TLTA in 1994-1995. Mr. Shaw received the President’s Award in 1996, 1998 and 2000 for outstanding contributions to the Texas title industry. Mr. Shaw was named “Title Man of the Year” by the TLTA in 1999. Mr. Shaw was appointed by the Texas Commissioner of Insurance to serve until September 30, 2005, on the Board of Directors of the Texas Title Insurance Guaranty Association.
