Message
In 2018, our company cerebrated the 125th anniversary. We would like to express our
deepest gratitude for many people including customers, distributors and those who take part in our business activities for their cooperation and kindness.
As represented by our continuing theme, namely, “Food Safety” and “Automation”, our
company has always given priority to resolving customer issues in the field. Rather than
diversifying business to completely different fields in order to improve business performance,
by supporting the long-standing market and customers, we have succeeded to create a
virtuous cycle of trust.
We intend to promote development of the products which improve business efficiency of our
customers and contribute to the environment, and to continue environment-friendly material
procurement as ever. Moreover, with regard to the chemical substances which are often
covered by the news recently, we will further enhance the current management to provide the
products which can be used safely and at ease. While strengthening compliance system such
as compliance with laws and ordinances and risk control, we are also working on
community-based biodiversity conservation activities such as street cleanup activity around
Shiga factory by employees.
As we are making a fresh start to strive to continue providing environment-friendly products,
your continuous guidance and encouragement will be greatly appreciated.
Director in charge of quality and environment Minoru Oshita

2. Energy Management Conditions of the Whole Company
In order to promote company-wide energy saving activities, our company aggregates monthly energy
consumption of all offices including domestic business offices and service centers, which is utilized to
achieve the annual target.
Although it is affected by climate such as temperature of the year since the electricity consumption by
air conditioning facilities has a high ratio, overall energy consumption is under control by establishing
energy awareness of each employee and by steady energy-saving activities such as putting out
unnecessary illumination and optimizing temperature of air conditioners. Moreover, while the target
value for FY2017 was 1,309.9 kL or less, the actual result of was 1,248.3 kL. We will keep on working
for conservation of the global environment by continuing these activities and making efforts for proper
energy use.

Offer of environment-contributing products
Sales department of the headquarters sets the offer of
environment-contributing products such as mountless labeler as
an environmental target and strives to achieve it. In FY2017, in
the number of planning and proposals of
environment-contributing products, seven target models, while
the annual target was two, were launched. Also in the number of
sales, we have achieved better results than expected.
By calculating the reduced disposal volume of seal mount by
introducing these models, we will consider the activities to make
further efforts with higher consciousness.
Reduction of electricity consumption
Reduction by 7% from the previous fiscal year was
achieved. Although electricity consumption had slightly increased in FY2016 due to temperature fluctuations by
intense heat and cold wave, it was reduced in FY2017
even in comparison with FY2015, which is conceivable
to be the result of infiltration of daily energy-saving
activities (control of extinction of unnecessary lights and
air conditioning temperature by each department, super
coolbiz and so on). It seems that replacement of old air
conditioners was also effective, therefore, from the
aspect of facilities, reduction of old lighting and air
conditioning equipment will be considered continuously
and systematically also from the energy-saving
perspective.
FY2015 FY2016 FY2017
Electricity consumption (vertical axis: MWh)

Reduction of waste (purchase volume of copier paper)
In FY2017, while the target was “to retain the
average purchase volume during FY2013-2015 (ca.
820k)”, reduction by 13.4 percent was achieved. The
significant reduction by 85,000 sheets from FY2016
was achieved by realization of large-scale paperless
system utilizing electronic document (Docuworks) in
the overseas sales department to communicate
order contents to relevant internal departments. We
will continue making such efforts to promote paper
reduction.
Comment by the environmental management representative of Kyoto headquarters
Kyoto headquarters is a base centered on sales and staff departments, which is making daily efforts for environmental activities setting “sales promotion of environment-contributing products” and “saving energy and resources (proper management of energy consumption and thorough observance of 5S)” as its chief targets.
In FY2018, through work style reforms and by reconsidering the work style, we will continue taking action to enhance productivity, which leads to enhancement of business quality. While accelerating paperless operation, we will make efforts for reduction of electricity consumption as well. As for 5S, enlightenment activities, which require conscious efforts of all employees, will take place again as a companywide effort for enhancement of business efficiency. Also in this fiscal year, we will strive for environmental management incorporated into the regular business activities and, as an enterprise and taking one of our social responsibilities, all employees, as one, will make daily effort to contribute to environmental conservation.

Transition of energy consumption
In FY2017, while the target consumption was
982.9 kL or less, the actual result was 932 kL.
The target was reached thanks to
energy-saving efforts by employees, monitoring
by the demand control unit and introduction of
LED illumination to the office building.
Also in FY2018, we will continue monitoring and
taking various measures for energy-saving
efforts of employees and for eliminating waste.
Reduction of waste
In Shiga factory, an index called “waste
generation rate” is established and utilized for
management and reduction of waste
generation. “Waste generation rate” is
calculated from the amount of generated waste
in Shiga factory per in-house production value (sales of the products manufactured in Shiga
factory) of JPY 1 million. Accordingly, waste
generation rate was “4.96 kg/JPY 1 million”,
which did not reach the controlled value of “4.60
kg/JPY 1 million” in FY2017 due to increase of
waste caused by relocation of the production
site (building D) and pre-shipment inspection of
new products.

Eco-Foster activity
As an environment beautification activity based
on “Omi Eco-Foster System”, monthly street
cleanup activity around Shiga factory is carried
out since 2004. The activity takes place for about
30 minutes from 5:30 in summer and from 8:00 in
winter. In FY2017, it was held in every week
without problems, in which total 266 employees
has participated and waste of about 27kg was
collected.
Cooperation to environmental learning project
Every year, in cooperation with the
“Environmental learning project for elementary
school children” sponsored by the Special
Committee of Energy and Environmental Policy
of the Kyoto Chamber of Commerce and
Industry, employees of Ishida, mainly females,
provide visiting lectures of environmental study to
elementary schools in Kyoto City.
In FY2017, a lecture under the theme of “Let’s
think about environment from the world of
measuring” was held on December 5 at Kyoto City Ikeda Elementary School.

Comment by the quality and environmental management representative of Shiga factory
In FY2017, with regard to the environmental targets of Shiga factory, as for the offer of environment-contributing products, commercialization of eight models has been completed. We sincerely appreciate the cooperation of all the people concerned.
As for the saving resources and energy, while the target was 982.9 kL or less (crude oil equivalent), it turned out to be 932 kL and the target was achieved. It is conceivable to be the result of continuous activities of demand control and visualization.
As for the reduction of environmentally hazardous substances, after the products had been made RoHS compliant, system operation was introduced to continue shipping the RoHS compliant products. Moreover, also with the regulation of four additional substances in 2019, we will cope in cooperation with suppliers and relevant departments.
Finally, as for ISO14001 certification, we were examined and certified for integrated transition of ISO9001 and ISO14001 in June last year. We will make daily efforts for improvement aiming at quality enhancement of the integrated management system of quality and environment.

14
Transition of electricity consumption
Consumption reduction by 18% from 100.9 kL in
FY2016 to 82.7 kL was achieved, which was 77.5%
of the target value of 106.7 kL. The possible causes
of the target achievement with the significantly better
figure are temporary relocation to offices with new
facilities due to reconstruction of Tokyo branch office
building, and cut of electricity cost for common-use
areas as they are occupied under a tenancy
agreement. Although it is difficult to estimate the
annual electricity consumption during the period of
temporary relocation, we intend to continue
promoting ecological activities
Reduction of generated waste
Amount of generated waste has significantly
increased from FY2016 because large
amount of general and industrial waste was
generated by the relocation to temporary
offices due to the reconstruction of Tokyo
branch office building. Since it is recognized
as a temporary increase caused by an
irregular event of reconstruction of the office building, no corrective action is taken,
however, as Tokyo branch office has four sites
now, including three sites of temporary
relocation, management department will take
proper action for law-abiding waste disposal.

Reduction of purchase volume of copier paper
As for the purchase volume of copier paper,
11.2% reduction from the previous year was
achieved, which was 6.88 m3 (86.1%) and
reached the target of 9 m3. The possible causes
are promotion of paperless system utilizing
Docuworks, introduction of business workflow
and so on, resulting in the fiscal year with the
least purchase volume of copier paper since the
start of statistics in 2011. Since paperless system
and business workflow have already been widely
spread, further reduction of purchase volume will
be difficult, however, we will strive to keep it to the
level of the purchase volume in this fiscal year
and to achieve the target by utilizing the reverse side of paper in addition to the paperless system.
Comment by the environmental management representative of Tokyo branch office
In FY2017, while targets for all subjects, namely, sales and introduction support of environment-contributing products, purchase volume of copier paper and energy consumption were achieved, electricity consumption and amount of generated waste cannot be properly compared with the average year as the office was dispersed to four sites, which are three temporary relocation sites and Itabashi Daini Building since December, due to the reconstruction of Tokyo branch office building. Although it is still unclear how the values for the temporary relocation sites will change during the year, targets for FY2018 will be set taking those in the average year and the values since December into consideration, and activities to achieve such targets will be carried out taking corrective action as necessary according to the state of progress.
Although monitoring by the environmental management representative (general affairs) is difficult during the period of temporary relocation, we intend to contribute to environmental conservation by strengthening monitoring and involving the managing departments of the relocation destinations in the activities to promote proper waste management and ecological activities to achieve the targets.
