YEAR 8 OPTIONS EVENING – THURSDAY 28TH MARCH 2019 All parents of Year 8 students are cordially invited to attend the Options Evening on
Thursday 28th March 2019.
There will be two talks in the Arts Theatre by Mr Cunningham, Deputy Head Teacher,
about the options process and the importance of making well-informed decisions. The
first is at 7pm for the parents and students of Form Groups 8A-8E, the second at 7:45pm
for the parents and students of Form Groups 8F-8J.
In addition, the Sports Hall will be set up like a market place from 7pm with each
subject represented for students and their parents to visit and talk to teachers and
current students about the various courses that are offered. The evening will close at
9pm.
In the lead up to completing their option form, it is important that your son/daughter
gathers as much information as they can about their choices before handing their
completed form to their form tutor on Thursday 4th April 2019.

YEAR 8 OPTIONS FOR 2019-22
Booklet information
All students were issued with their option booklets week commencing 25th February
2019. These are available via the website. All students MUST stay on their current
booklet. Should students/parents wish to request a change of booklet, they must wait
until the options process is complete on Thursday 28th March 2019. Please do not ask
for a change before this deadline.
After this point, parents can make a written request to change booklets which must
be addressed to Mr Cunningham. Final decisions will be made and communicated
by Monday 1st April to ensure students are able to hand their option forms in by
Thursday 4th April.

ARTS ACADEMY NEWS “BELIEVER” PERFORMANCE On Saturday, our High School and Sixth Form Dance students went to The Lowry
Theatre to perform "Believer" choreographed by Sixth Form Dance student, Charlotte
Hanley, as part of the U Dance 2019 Regional finals.
The students took part in a range of creative workshops with industry professionals and
developed their own creative flair. Their performance on the stage was outstanding
and they were a real credit to the school and Sixth Form.
We now eagerly await the news to see if we have been selected for National Finals!

STUDENTS ON BIKES Please remind your child that if they travel to school on a bike, it is their responsibility
to ensure that it is securely locked in the designated bike shed provided and not on
the railings outside of the school entrance. The bike shed is located behind secure
gates which are locked until 3:10pm.

FRENCH SPEAKING MOCK EXAMINATIONS Monday 25th March to Friday 29th March (inclusive) In preparation for the summer GCSE examinations, all Modern Foreign Languages
GCSE students in Year 11 will undertake a speaking mock exam during the week
commencing Monday 25th March 2019. Please see the below schedule for when your
child is expected to attend.
It is very important that your child keeps to the schedule and prepares well for this
mock exam. The speaking component of the exam is worth 25% of the final grade
and therefore it is imperative that your child prepares well under the guidance of their
French teacher to ensure they are able to perform well in the summer.

YEAR 13 LEARNING PROGRAMME Assessment Week 3 - Monday 25th March to Monday 1st April 2019 (inclusive) From Monday 25th March until Monday 1st April 2019 (inclusive) all students in Year 13
will be undertaking assessments in the subjects they are currently studying. For both
A-level and BTEC subjects these assessments will be based on past paper questions,
and indeed complete papers, and will be taken under exam conditions to best
prepare your son/daughter for final examinations in May/June 2019.
Please see below the exam timetable so your son/daughter is aware of when their
examinations take place. All morning exams will start as soon as possible at 9.00 am. It
is vital that your son/daughter is in school and registered at 8:50am with their tutor to
allow them to get to the Arts Theatre for a 9:00am start.
Afternoon examinations commence at 1:10pm. Your son/daughter should report to
the Arts Theatre immediately from lunch.
Please could you encourage and support your son/daughter to prepare thoroughly
for these exams as they will give them a good indication of the progress they have
made to date and what they need to do to improve in order that they can secure
fantastic exam results in the summer of 2019.

YEAR 10 LP3 BUSINESS STUDIES EXAM – MONDAY 1ST APRIL 2019 In preparation for the Business Studies Component 3 Exam (contributes 33% towards
final grade) this summer, students in Y10 (and Y9 LFC) will be undertaking a full mock
of the exam.
The mock will take place on Monday 1st April (PM) and will cover all learning aims. This
includes Promotion, Financial Records and Planning and Forecasting.
Students have begun revising for the mock, with all homework's now set as revision in
preparation. A lunchtime warm up for the mock will take place in S13, with all students
invited to attend.

YEAR 11 BUSINESS STUDIES - UNIT 2 EXAM Year 11 Business Studies students will resit the Unit 2 Business Finance exam on
Wednesday 3rd April 2019.
On 3rd April, students will have a one hour warm up prior to attempting the one hour
exam.
Students have been revising in lessons and homework’s have been set to revision.
There are a wide range of revision resources available on Show My Homework for
students to utilise independently.
After school revision will continue to take place on Fridays in S13 for all students up
until the exam.
