EXERCISE 03

Stairs allow for people to move from point A to point B in a diagonal manner, transfering oneself through an exerperience. The stairs are composed of portable blocks that are aggregated in a non lin-ear form, creating a change in direction and skewing away from the linear path standard staircases imply. The aggregated staircase duals as a library shelf desks, making the stairs the furiture. By having the stairs as the furniture, it allows for the stairs to be the whole pavillion, instead of integrating furniture. People will visit the pavililion as a study space in a park.

THE SPINE: HOUSING IN COLUM-BIA HEIGHTSFor this semester, we were as-signed a site in Columbia Heights, DC to produce a housing complex. My project was to create a resdien-tial community that was practifcal and intuitive. The branching of units alludes to growing in different directs, but stemming from the same place. Green Spaces mark each branch to provide nature in a conrete city. Bridges span from the main walk way to seperate prive and public access, while similtaniously directing people and ventilation.

THE CORNER CINEMA: NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK

The Corner Cinema was positioned in the East Village of Manhattan, where we deigned art centers based off of models. By starting with concrete casted and museum board evaluations, the project stemmed from a small scale intervention. From there, program was divided by sky lights and a large theater, extending down six floors. The large theater was complimented by small, medium, and an outdoor theater.

DEMOCRACY HUB: CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA

Since being located on the Univer-sity Campus, the Democracy Hub was not only a connective outlet for visitors, but for students. Open axes fosters a welcoming and transparent environment for mutual learning from the students and visitors. A fluid floor plan of public and private work spaces is based off a grid system, guiding the geometry.
