[Concept]Art

This small booklet presents all the digital concept art created for game project called Forodren Auth [Northern Wars]. Main aim of presented concept was to generate initial ideas, design, add value to the game and develop the style of the game.

[Forodren]Auth

Forodren Auth is a game modification project based on Mount & Blade: Warband engine. It transforms the playable world into Northern regions of Middle-earth, allowing player to explore Rhovanion and experience the northern battles during the War of the Ring.

[Creation]Details

Majority of Images were created in January 2013, as the author joined Forodren Auth team only at the beginning of the year. Some of the images (pages 29-32) were digitally painted in sum-mer 2012. They were not created for the game, but they were used in the design process or will be used as in game graphics.

[Submission]Details

This submission consist only of the concept art, not the actual game, as it is not released yet. North Wars is a non profit project developed by hobbyist in free time.

[Erebor]Elevation

Authors first task was to provide concept art and measured drawings of Erebor. They were supposed to be used by 3d mod-ellers of the team to bring the design to life.

[Erebor]Details

Here are some of the more detailed drawings created to further explore the dwarven style. They other aim was to provide more information about the most difficult parts of the design for 3d modellers.

[Bridge]Design

Although Tolkien does not mention any bridges leading to the dwarven kingdom, author decided to add it to entire design, as it would make the gameplay and sieges more interesting.

[Interior]Design

There was just one internal psace to be designed for the Erbor - Throne Room. But it required a great amount of detailing and attention.

[Interior]Details

Plenty of time and attention was paid to internal details of the Throne Room. Line art and bump maps (graphics used to define height of surfaces without modelling) were created to be used as in game graphics.

[Dwarven]Weapons

Due to the nature of the game a lot of attention was paid to design of the weapons, as they will contribute to a lot to the way dwarves of Erebor will be perceived by players. The weapons were divided into polearms, blunt weapons, axes and swords. The distinction was important due to the game engine and different atributes of all of them.

[Designers]Statement

My main aim when designing those weapons was expression of the nature of thei users: rough, aggressive but fair.

[Concept]Paintings

Majority of the concept paintings created for the game aimed to express the general feel of certain environments and inform the 3d modeller about different colour schemes that various environments could have.

Although not all of them were created directly for the game they all had their part in the design process or will serve as in game graphics.
