Introduction to Engineering Design

• First class in a series of electives offered in the Polytechnic Academy

• Part of the Project Lead the Way program• Full Year Class• No Pre-requisites• Prepares students for other classes in the

series.

Introduction to Engineering Design • Goals

– Stimulate interest in engineering careers– Teach basic skills to prepare students for college and

engineering careers– Teach problem solving and logical thought processes to all

students even if they don’t become engineers– Expose students to design process, engineering standards,

research and analysis, technical documentation, global and human impacts, communication methods, and teamwork.

Autodesk Inventor

• Computer Aided Drawing tool for technical drawings in 3D.

• Students learn how to draw objects and designs by hand and then how to draw them using the tool.

• Ability to use one CAD tool will enable them to learn others more quickly in the future.
