Skeptics say• If it relies on Internet and technology access at home and

schools limited to those who have and leave out low income students.

• Still rely heavily on lectures by teachers

• Best for self motivated and directed learners

• Challenge for students to handle a lot at home

• Not suitable for all subjects

• For small classes

Implementation• Teacher prepares teaching material – videos, paper work

etc and sends to the students

• Students listen to instruction, discuss with peers and raise questions for the class time

• Interaction and discussion in class – problem, question based, experiential, debate, lab work

Flipped Classroom

By viewing video lectures students may pause, stop, rewind at their own will.

In the classroom students are provided

the opportunity to apply what was learned in the

lesson

In the classroom students are provided the opportunity to apply what was learned in the lesson.

Students work through the problems during class time.

It creates a student cantered personalized learning environment.

The teacher acts as a facilitator by circulating the room and providing assistance where necessary.

This model allows the teacher to be available when the students need him or her most.

Students work with peers  or in small groups to collaborate on problems.

Where do you start?

• There are a number of free video screencasts available for math and science online

• One example is The Khan Academy. This site, created by Salman Khan houses thousands or screencast lectures from basic math to advanced calculus.

• It also includes interactive practice sessions for students to apply what they have learned.
