Cabot, 24.5.“We all worked together well,”

Miller said. “If someone had a badweek, we just picked up the slackfor them. We supported eachother through this strenuous jour-ney.”

“Obstacles are just a part oflife. It’s how you react that makesyou a champion, and this team isthat,” Miller said.

“You set your mind to it andgo,” said Miguel Medina, who atesix calculated meals per day andworked out six to seven days perweek.

“It’s hard work,” Cabot said.“But if you follow the diet andexercise, it will happen. And youhave to be competitive — reallycompetitive.”

“Veggies and water,” Ryansaid.

Will Just Weight return in 2020for a triple crown?

“I hope not,” Miguel Medinasaid.

“Oh, no, I hope not,” his daugh-ter echoed.

“I’m still working out almostevery day,” Miguel Medina said.

“You can’t just stop,” Ryansaid. “You can’t change your eat-ing habits either. You’ll get sick.”

GGOO--GGEETTTTEERRSSEarly in the Fitness Challenge,

the Big Dogs invested in team

hoodies and T-shirts. The frontsbore the team name. The backsproclaimed, “Some wish for it. Wework for it.”

“It was not easy at all,” mem-ber Stacy Jerina of Howland said.

“It was not fun,” her husbandand teammate Bill Jerina said.“The competition was fun. I don’tlike losing.”

“Yeah, the competition made itfun,” Stacy Jerina said. “It kind ofmotivated us, the competition.”

“And the charity,” teammateMarie Vickers said.

The Big Dogs will donate $815to the Voice of the TrumbullPound Dogs, volunteers workingwith the Trumbull County DogPound.

The Big Dogs started off at ahefty 1,284 pounds, dropped 178.75pounds and scored a 13.9 percentslim-down.

Mission Slimpossible finishedsecond at 11.8 percent and the LPJLean Machine came on strong inthe final weeks to run its way intothird place at 8.5 percent.

“It was a very good experi-

ence,” Vickers said. “It was whatI needed to get on the road to los-ing weight. And to do it with otherpeople was very helpful. I lost 28pounds.”

“We’re still going,” said StacyJerina, who dropped 26.5 pounds.Bill lost 29.5.

“We’ve got some more to lose,”she said. “We might not be asstrict now.”

“I’ve got to keep going,” David“Soup” Campbell of Warren said.He said he’s feeling much betterafter losing 38.25 pounds. “I haveback pain. This helps me out, theweight off the body.”

He said his exercise wasrestricted to the recumbent bike.

Meanwhile, team captainGlenn “Big Dog” McClellan ofWarren worked about every exer-cise that came his way en route tobanishing 56.5 pounds over eightweeks — and nearly 200 poundsover the last two years.

“Elliptical, bike, treadmill, walking, Nautilus machines, freeweights... I haven’t felt this com-petitive in years,” he said.

Will he backslide now that the2019 Fitness Challenge is in thebooks?

“I had that one hot dog,”McClellan said. “I said I was goingto back off but I was at the gym for3 1/2 hours last night.”

If the group would return nextyear, it would move into theDynamos division.

“Maybe we’ll come back try to

knock off the big boys and be atwo-division champion,” McClel-lan said with a laugh. But it’s notlikely they’ll return, he said.

McClellan had words for thewhole field of 24 teams: “For allthe competitors, we are all win-ners. I hope we can continue withour goals to get healthy. For thecharities, the big winners, theywill benefit from the Challenge tocontinue doing the good workthey do each and every day.”
