First off, let’s Talk About:

• FIRST stands for: For Inspiration & Recognition of Science &Technology

• Founded in 1989• Mission for young people:

- Inspire leaders in science and technology - Engage in exciting mentor-based programs

- Build science, engineering & technology skills- Inspire innovation- Foster life skills in areas of:

- self-confidence, communication and leadership.

• Teamwork: Everyone has a part

Why and Where did it all start

- Murrysville, PA (Gateway to Westmoreland County)

- Franklin Regional did not have:– Engineering classes or– Construction workshops or any– Hands on classes

- Start a club so skills could be learned.- Research the FIRST organization.- FIRST

What did we have to do?• Determine interest of Students• Research the FIRST competition• Find a teacher to Sponsor• Advertise for Team members• Determine where Team could meet• Would parents support the Team• Raise funds to become a FIRST Team• Simple Right? … Not quite.

Organizing FIRST Team 4150

• Signed up as FIRST Team 4150• Set Team goals:• Set Company Goals1. Learn engineering skills2. Learn teamwork skills3. Gain expertise from mentors4. Stand out as a rookie team5. Learn to fix problems

Purpose• Develop Skills for the real world• Preparation for college and future careers• Exploring possibilities in engineering• Scholarships• Gain knowledge in the field of robotics• Collaborate, design, and create a robot• Work as a team

The Game• Two teams - three robots

- shooting at hoops (Scoring points)• 2 minute and 15 second matches

- Hybrid period (15 seconds)- Teleoperated period (2 minutes).

• Bonus points:- Balancing Robots on ramps

- Alliance cooperation advancing ranking
