Project Sponsor

Our Capstone Project has been sponsored by Retire 1st which is a financial company based out of Red Deer, Alberta. Retire 1st is an investment and insurance service that provides customers with the latest market news, accounts and foreign exchange. We were initially sponsored to design an upgrade to their existing website. This upgrade allows clients, and administrators to log into a database to view financial reports.

BenefitsThe implementation of our financial database is a secure and simple way to access data and reports. The benefits of connecting to a centralized database on a back-end server are:• User authentication for connecting to the database• Registration on the website for creating a user account • Financial reports and data are viewed as .pdf (page display files) which give the

option of read-only access.

Challenges

• The sensitivity of our clients data set conditions on the security standards we implemented.

• Mathematical and programming functions were used for calculating investments.

• Programming including PHP, HTML, and CSS design for the database and web pages.

Recommendations

• Server security should have been completed at an earlier date. This would allow for quicker implementation of deliverables on the server.

• Organize work structure to enable the group to proceed more efficiently. This includes dividing team members efforts based on priority of the task.

Conclusion

This project was a large and exciting project to undertake to prepare our team members for future endeavors. A few advantages that we have learned from experience is how to scribe and chair meetings, follow a Gantt chart or scheduled timeline and preparing documentation including laboratory journals.
