Before Unplugged

Our Background; Unplugged emerged from debates about Ivan Illich, learning conversations new ways of doing things in a 2.0 world. Follows on from work by Tony Hall, Dougald Hine & School of Everything, using the opportunities created by the credit crunch and the failure of hierarchies. A world of future possibilities is on offer and we discuss what they might be

Everything Unplugged 1

Conversations about Learning

Tony Hall

• The School of Everything Unplugged began in July 2009 with a comment in a blog, that became a chat, that lead to a weekly conversation, which became the Everything Unplugged group on Facebook. Through our conversations we prod, puzzle and play with the idea of what learning can become

David Jennings

• Everything Unplugged is the combination of dogged persistence – with one or two committing to turn up no matter what -- with extreme surrender to context -- who turns up and what they're willing and able to talk about -- lubricated with a little generosity of spirit.

Patrick Hadfield

• A loosely-connected group of people from a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences who gather together to talk about ideas – prompted, but not exclusively, by an interest in learning. It is essentially an ongoing, wide-ranging conversation which challenges, educates and entertains.

Conversations about Society

Mark Narayn

• Everything Unplugged is a reliably regular space for dialogue about learning & society.

Bridget McKenzie Blog

• This is a time of revelations and rethinking. Education is seen as the panacea to injustice and poverty, but expressed in institutions channelling people into a ‘real world’ based on extraction, commodification, accumulation and waste. We should root learning in social and natural ecologies generating wellbeing within and via the biosphere. We need a;

Everything Unplugged 3

Conversations with Loose Ties

Ian McCleave

• Unplugged represents an open, non-hierarchical and occasionally anarchic opportunity to engage in conversations about how individuals learn and engage with all that is around them. It facilitates a more natural learning process, encouraging everyone to tap into the collective intelligence, learning from each other and contributing without fear

@fredgarnett

• Everything Unplugged provides a context that celebrates the social discontinuity of learning. We come together, discuss some topic until we agree, then we go away, reflect on those discussions and disagree afresh. But we’ve been changed by the deep listening with which we honour the thoughts of other learning anarchists
