QUESTION 2HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?

YOUNGER DEMOGRAPHIC The younger demographic is represented through the

featured artist ‘Lily Wilkinson’, who is a 17 year old female solo artist. I have chose to do this as the target audience of my magazine is 16-26 years old, I felt using a featured artist of similar age would allow the reader to relate more to the content of the magazine.

Through the article I have written about the featured artist I have presented a positive representation of the younger demographic. A much more relatable and realistic representation of the age group, this is shown through the pull quote ‘I was trying hard to control my inner fan girl!’

WOMEN The women portrayed in my magazine

aren’t shown in a stereotypical provocative way, which is common in most music magazines. Through not portraying women in a provocative way I'm challenging the stereotypical representation. I have challenged this through the clothes the artist is wearing and also the way she is positioned and photographed. A more positive image of women is represented to the younger demographic.

MISE EN SCENE I've created a positive representation of

this young age range, as the images have an exciting and care free look about them. I was able to create this through the mise en scene. Fun and light hearted facial expressions of the models also help to create a positive representation of this young age group. The clothes the artist is wearing isn’t provocative and she is quite covered up. The clothes also appear to be quite masculine representing a strong, independent woman through the artist wearing a black leather jacket and a blue denim shirt.

SOCIAL GROUPS My magazine has a similar

social group to magazines such as NME and Kerrang. Both are aimed at similar age groups and also represent their cover artists and other featured artists in a similar way to my magazine. They also have the same target audience and age group.
