You are an IT Manager in an organisation in aconsumer product company which has disparatesolutions running for their various function areas. Thecompany operations are spread across the country inmore than 100 locations. The organization hasimplemented an ERP solution and has achievedbenefits such as standardization of work practices, reduced inventory levels and better planning. The havealso implemented DW for supporting decision makingprocess and other technology enablement solutions fortheir external stakeholder interactions.

With increased business, the organisation is still nowfacing a challenge in efficient operation of theirwarehouse including tracking of the materials insidethe warehouse. They are also facing an issue of wrongdispatches to customer, thereby increasing theirdistribution costs.

Recommend and develop a detailed strategy forimplementing technology enablers to address thisissue. Define the roadmap for implementation andpotential risks and risk mitigation strategies for theimplementation of the enablement project withprocess maps highlighting the areas of improvement.

Provide paperless system driven processes

Provide process visibility and managementtools

Improve customer service levels

Disconnected manual processes

Limited control due to the volumes

Limited supply chain visibility

Inadequate communication and updates to customers

To implement a warehouse management system andintegrate it with existing core ERP solution.

Setting up RFID enablement in warehousemanagement system

We recommend SAP EWM implementation and itsintegration with existing SAP ERP solution.

Setting up RFID enablement in SAP EWM

SAP EWM will be the baseline for all future SupplyChain System Strategies

Full Product traceability throughout the Supply Chain– Inbound and Outbound

Improve Inventory accuracy in the warehouse as resultof the Physical Inventory functionality within EWM.

Improve the accuracy of product picking and dispatchto customers

Utilise monitoring tools to pro active highlightpotential problem areas in the warehouse

Preparing for Change - Not only the warehouse, butentire company is affected like OrderProcessing, Purchase, Finance, Distribution etc.

Develop blueprint and make sure that all parties areinvolved and add value

Form a steering team - Business, Management, SAPteam and consultants

Map the entire warehouse - Physical storage locations– bins, storage types, doors, gates etc

Determine upfront what packaging and labels will beused - Labels for Bins, Boxes

Make sure that the Layouts of the printed documentsare properly specified.

Impart User Training - Make sure that the end usersunderstands the total picture, not just their ownfunctionality.

If time lines are extended due to other projects re-testfull integration again.

Resistance to change

Bad replication of SAP ERP master data to SAP EWM

Training requirements for SAP EWM must not beunderestimated.

Operational Risks.

Communication - With SAP EWM being more complex it wascritical that staff understood the changes and the reasons.Ultimately it is they that will operate the system

Revisit out Master Data in SAP ERP and correct any programerrors. Via the core Interface, master data SAP ERP is replicatedin SAP EWM to process related transactions

Plan and prepare for your training requirements early and makesure that everyone is focused on the big picture, not just thepush of a button!

Work out a Business Continuity Plan.

SAP EWM affects the entire business, not just the warehouse

Make sure you understand the hardware requirements - RFdevices, Printers etc.

Do not underestimate the business blueprint phase - Changesdown the line can be costly and time consuming

Master Data is the ROOT of all evil - Bad master data can andwill bring processes to a standstill. Ensure that someone takesownership of your master data as well as the transfer thereofbetween SAP EWM and SAP ERP

Timely communicate the changes as well as the reasons for it

Thanks !!!
