How to create a scenario
Create New Scenario
Select File > New Scenario
Where it says Name enter Tutorial Scenario
Leave the rest as default values
Click Next
Create New Scenario
– Region of Interest
Where it says Country select United States of America
Find Tennessee state and expand it
Find Shelby county and select it
Click Next
Create New Scenario
– Default Sets
Select Ergo 4.0.0 Beta 1
Click Finish

Tutorial Scenario (2)
You can check the box to not show render controls in the future
Click OK to close the 2D Renderer Controls dialog box
3 views should be open Scenarios
2D Renderer view
Catalog view
Exercise
1. Create new scenario
How to Create Local Data Repository
Data Repository
Data repository stores inventory, hazard, fragility, fragility mapping, default sets, etc.
Initially, you have two repositories: Ergo-EQ public repository (read-only)
Sample data that you can test/run the analysis
Datasets from MAE center
Local Cache Repository stores the temporary caches
(managed by the software)
Local Data Repository
Similar to the Ergo Public Repository except data and metadata will be stored on local disk
Allows working offline Can publish local data to remote data
store and vice verse
Creating Local Repository (1)
Click New Repository button
Creating Local Repository (2)
Select Local Repository as a repository type
Click Next
Creating Local Repository (3)
Type Tutorial Repo as a repository name
Select the location (folder) of your repository (i.e. D:\tutorial)
Click Finish
We will ingest (store) data for this tutorial
Exercise
1. Create your local repository
How to Create Seismic Hazard
Seismic Hazards
You can create seismic hazards by Attenuation function Probabilistic data from USGS (Hazard map)
By Using Attenuation (1)
Run “Create Scenario Earthquake” with following steps:
Right click on Tutorial Scenario and select Execute Analysis
Expand Hazard and select “Create Scenario Earthquake”
Click Finish
By Using Attenuation (2)
For Result Name specify scen-eq
Leave the rest as default values
Click Execute
Scenario Earthquake
Click on “Tutorial Scenario (2D)” tab to see the result
Expand the scenario and the scen-eq to see the legend
Probabilistic Hazard
You can ingest the USGS probabilistic hazard map for your hazard
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/hazards/products/conterminous/index.php#2014
Since it covers entire US, we downloaded and cropped the data around Shelby county.
We will ingest the prepared data into your local repository
Ingesting Probabilistic Hazard (1)
Download the data at https://
opensource.ncsa.illinois.edu/confluence/download/attachments/68289024/prob-hazard-data.zip?api=v2
Unzip the file (prob-hazard-data.zip).
Right-click on Tutorial Repo Select Ingest Dataset
Ingesting Probabilistic Hazard (2)
Select Raster as a file type Click Next
Ingesting Probabilistic Hazard (3)
Select Raster file (uspga250_clip_asc.asc) you unzipped
Click Next
Ingesting Probabilistic Hazard (3)
Select Probabilistic Hazard as a data type
Click Next
Ingesting Probabilistic Hazard (3)
Type pga as hazard Select Ground
Motion in G as a unit
Type 0 for period Click Next
Ingesting Probabilistic Hazard (3)
Select your repository (Tutorial Repo)
Type pga 2 percent in 50 year
Type 1 for version # Click Finish
Ingesting Probabilistic Hazard (3)
Expand your repository to see the dataset
Drag & Drop the dataset (pga 2 percent in 50 year) to your scenario (Tutorial scenario) or to the map view
Two Hazards
Now you have two seismic hazards (deterministic and probabilistic) in your scenario Expand your
scenario to see these datasets
You can turn on/off visibility of the layer by right-click on the dataset and select Toggle Visibility
Running Building Damage Analysis
Run Building Damage Analysis Right click on
Tutorial Scenario and select Execute Analysis
Expand Building and select Structural Damage
Click Finish
Building Damage Analysis
Builds User Interface
Search for Dataset
Create Dataset
Add Required Inputs - Buildings
Where it says Result Name enter Building Damage
Where it says Buildings click the Search button
Select Shelby County RES3 and click Finish
It may take a few seconds to load the dataset depending on your internet connection
Add Required Inputs - Hazard
Where it says Hazard click the Search button
Select scen-eq (the hazard you created before) and click Finish
Execute Building Damage Click on Advanced
Parameters Notice all required
values filled in from default set
Analysis is ready Click Execute
Exercise
1. Open Structural Damage analysis under Building
2. Set inputs for Structural Damage analyses
3. Execute Analyses

Building Damage Table
Right click on Building Damage
Select Show Attribute Table
Exercise
1. View Building Damage Attribute Table
Change Layer Style
Right click on Building Damage and select Change Layer Style
Under Ranged Style, locate the Number of Classes field and select 7
Click Apply Style
Exercise
1. Change the layer style by increasing number of classes
Exercise
1. Execute Building Structural Damage analysis with probabilistic hazard dataset you ingested (pga 2 percent in 50 year)
Result name: Building Damage 2 Buildings: Shelby County RES3 Hazard: pga 2 percent in 50 year
