Water Pollution

Outline

What is water pollution?

The act of introducing contaminate into source

of water -Turn water into dangerous

and unsafe for neither direct

nor indirect consumption

Causes

Extensive Tillage (Clive A. Edwards et. al.,1990)

Silage effluent (Clive A. Edwards et. al.,1990)

Fertilizers (Deshmukh, S.N., 2010)

Pesticides & herbicides (Clive A. Edwards et. al.,1990)

Decomposition of organic waste (D. Zitzelsberger et. al.,1997)

- Silage effluent (Clive A. Edwards et. al.,1990)

- Livestock EffluentChemical waste (Bjorn Lomborg et.

al., 1978)

Silage effluent

Soil Erosion

Effects

contamination of water sources (Clive A. Edwards et. al.,1990)

- drinking water -daily uses -food crop Eutrophication (TP Kulikova et.

al., 2004)

Poisoning of aquatic life (Clive A. Edwards et. al.,1990)

Effect the agriculture activity

(V. Ratna Reddy et. Al., 2005; Bhagirath Behera et. Al., 2005)

Death of Aquatic Life by water pollution

Eutrophication

Recommendations

Law ( LM Wenner et. al., 1972)

universal filtration (sayali joshi et. al., 2008; sandeep joshi et. al., 2008)

bio-pesticides (Clive A. Edwards et. al., 1990)

bio-fertilizers (Clive A. Edwards et. al., 1990)

cover cropping (TJ Logan et. al., 1993)

Conclusion

Water pollution is a growing concern in society today. As water is a vital resource to sustain humanity, it needs to be conserved. Agricultural practices that cause water pollution should be reduced or eliminated and other alternatives should be utilized in order to combat this growing problem in society today. It is the eleventh hour and we need to take action before it is too late.
