Dear Families,
Semester 1 is coming to an end. I would like to take this
opportunity to thank parents and staff for their ongoing
support of the school, and the educational programs
implemented.
I would also like to thank all the students who have
endeavoured to improve their academic, creative,
sporting and social achievements during the first half of
2019. Your effort is recognised and greatly appreciated.
Keep up the great work.
Wishing you all a safe and relaxing holiday period. Term 3
begins on Tuesday 23 July.
SHORT FILM FESTIVAL @ PUTNEY PS Thank you to all the students who entered films in this
year’s Putney Short Film Festival. It has been wonderful
observing you using the skills that you learnt with Ms
Sheehan and Miss Thomas.
A special congratulations to the 10 finalists who were
selected to have their films showcased at the ‘red carpet’
viewing on Thursday 4 July. Thank you to Ms Sheehan for
organising the event and Mrs Burke for her assistance.
A special thank you to our P&C for providing popcorn for
the event. This provided a special ‘cinema touch’ to the
night and was extremely well received by all involved.

ENROL NOW FOR 2020 We are currently taking enrolments for 2020. It is
important that if you are planning to enrol a child at
Putney Public School for 2020, that you do so now,
particularly for kindergarten. This will allow us to begin
organisation regarding class structure and teacher
allocation. If you need further information, please contact
the school office on 9807 6255.
ATHLETICS CARNIVAL @ PUTNEY PS Thank you to the whole school community who attended
our school’s athletics carnival at St Luke’s Oval, Concord. It
was lovely to see the whole school community bond
together to make the day a great success. A special thank
you to all the parent volunteers, athletes, teachers and
large crowd for the attendance and support.
An extra special mention to Miss Russell who was able to
coordinate 2 schools using the oval at the same time, after
the council ‘double booked’ the venue. Well done Miss
Russell!
Enjoy some of the photos from the day.

On Wednesday 3rd July, we held our annual athletics carnival at St Luke’s Oval in Concord. Although we had the challenge of
using the oval in conjunction with another school, we had a very successful carnival thanks to all the wonderful support of
our parent volunteers and the enthusiasm of our students! Congratulations to those who will go on to represent Putney
Public School at the zone carnival next term.
Ribbons will be handed out early next term and the Ryde Zone Athletics Carnival will be held at Sydney Olympic Park on
the 20th August 2019.

As part of our Project Based Learning task (PBL), students will collaboratively develop an action plan to address one of the environmental issues in the school or local community and create an awareness campaign. To assist students in their campaign and provide them some suggestions to improve our school or local community, please complete the following short surveys from 4SK and 3F:
More surveys from other Stage 2 classes will be included in newsletters early next term.

End of Term 2 Newsletter
Dear Families,
Staff Changes:
There have not been any changes in staff this term. All our wonderful educators are still here and doing great things with the
children.
Parents Breakfast: (Thursday)
Our parents’ breakfast will be on Thursday 4th July from 7am till 8:15am. Please feel free to come
along for some yummy food or a cuppa. All families and siblings welcome.
Menu:
Our POOSH weekly menu is on display on the notice board. Please have a look and let me know if
there is anything that you would like to see added to the menu. Your suggestions are very welcome.
Some children have already put in their suggestions for some yummy afternoon snacks. The favourite for this term was Lasa-
gne and Pasta.
Late Fees:
Just a reminder that if children are picked up late in the afternoon they will be charged a late fee of $10 per 10 minutes (e.g. if
you pick up at 6:07 you will be charged $10) and a fee of $35 will be charged if after 6:15pm. This is a cash payment due at
the time of your child’s collection.
If your child/ren is/are going to be absent from school you MUST ensure that you contact POOSH, via email or phone. Failure
to do so will incur a non-notification fee of $15.
Craft/Cooking:
This term for cooking the children have made cupcakes, chocolate crackles, savoury scrolls and biscuits. They have also partic-
ipated in science experiments.
In the craft department which is very much sort after the children have made a number of items
which are hanging around at POOSH and on display for all to see. The most exciting item that the
children made was Patrick the robot (named by Oliver. K) The children have also created their own
board games which are still being completed.

Outside:
Like term I decided to split the groups while outside. The K-2 and 3-6 are on different sides of the playground each afternoon.
This has worked very well and will continue in term 3.
Some
Inside
Activities:
Incursions:
This term we had dance in the hall which is held on a Tuesday afternoon. We had a Go Seek show that was on for the K- 2
children. This show was very interactive and was very informative.
The children enjoyed this show and asked if they would come back in term 3. I have organised some other incursions for
term 3 that I’m sure the children are going to enjoy just as much as these ones.
Biggest Morning Tea:
On the 24th May we held a Biggest Morning Tea which was a great success. I would like to thank all the families and sur-
rounding business’s who donated items which made this a great event
as well as the families who purchased items
and raffle tickets. Congratulations to all our
raffle winners.
Along with dancing for the children in term 3, which will move to a Wednesday, there will be a sports program for all chil-
dren. This will be on a Tuesday afternoon and will commence at 3:45. There will be two groups K-2 and 3-6. This will be held
on the back flat.
I hope you all have a safe and great break.
See you in term 3.
Thankyou
Rosie (Director)

Stage One Excursion to Centennial Park
First when we arrived at Centennial Park we sat down on the veranda. We all had our crunch
and sip. When we were finished we went to see the colony of fruit bats. After we looked at
them we crossed the bridge. Under the bridge there was a lake with tadpoles. When we
crossed the bridge we came to a bunch of islands with lots of birds on them. Next we met
Percy the possum. After that we did dip netting. Dip netting is where you have to get a net and
a tray filled up with water. You dip the net in a lake and collect creatures. When we did dip
netting we caught four diving beetles and one bleach. Then we did a maze. After that we went
to the veranda and had lunch. When we were finished we went into the Wild Play Playground.
We played for an hour and then we went on the bus. When we got to school it was home time.

Thomas Bowden Retirement Village Visit
This term, Putney students had the pleasure of welcoming visitors from the Thomas Bowden Re-
tirement Village. During their first visit, residents enjoyed a performance by the recorder ensem-
ble, as well as a variety of digital advertisements created by 4SK. During week 9, residents had the
opportunity to enjoy short videos made by students for the Putney Film Festival. We look forward
to seeing them again in Term 3.
Message from the recorder ensemble:
On Thursday, the Recorder Group played ‘Three Brothers,’ ‘Simple Gifts’ and ‘Bluz for Suz’ for the
Thomas Bowden Retirement Village residents. It was fun playing in the hall. They said they had a
wonderful time and it was a great experience to perform to an audience. We look forward to see-
ing them again. Last Tuesday, we had a practise in the city at the Salvation Army Hall. Next month,
we are going to the Opera house to perform at the FOIM (Festival of Instrumental Music) in front
of a large audience.
