History

• Theatre in New York moved from downtown gradually to midtown beginning around 1850

• In 1870, the heart of Broadway was in Union Square, and by the end of the century, many theatres were near Madison Square

• Theatres did not arrive in the Times Square area until the early 1900s, and the Broadway theatres did not consolidate there until a large number of theatres were built around the square in the 1920s and 1930s

Jersey Boys

• The story dramatizes the forming, rise and eventual break-up of the original four members of The Four Seasons. The musical is separated into four "seasons", each narrated by a different member of the band.

The Lion King

• Good lion (Mufassa) vs. bad lion (Scar)

• Mufassa dies• Simba, Mufassa’s son

will become the king• Mufassa is jealous• Okay, you guys know

this story so I wont explain it anymore….

Mama Mia

• The story of a bride-to-be trying to find her real father told using hit songs by the popular '70s group ABBA.

Wicked

• Wicked explores the concept that the Wicked Witch of the West, here known as Elphaba, is a misunderstood, victimized person whose behavior is merely a reaction against the Wizard’s corrupt government

• It also displays her relationship with the beautiful and ambitious Galinda Upland, who ultimately becomes Glinda the Good Witch of the North

Broadway Idioms

• Break A Leg: A superstitious way to say 'good luck' without saying 'good luck', but rather the opposite

• Cut to the Chase: Leave out all the unnecessary details and just get to the point.

• Knock On Wood: Knuckle tapping on wood in order to avoid some bad luck.

Yuri’s Favorite Broadway Song

• RENT- Seasons of Love

That’s a wrap!
