3 “Big Suckers” per aircraft!!!

95.2 inch = 2.42 m

186 inch = 4.72 m

Three GE high bypass ratio turbo-fan engines

Produce approx 51,800 lbs of thrust

N1 section is integrated front fan & low pressure compressor

Fan produces approx 80% of total thrust

Fan produces approx 100% of reverse thrust

Three stage low pressure compressor

Four stage low pressure turbine

14 stage high pressure compressor

Two stage high pressure turbine

Drives accessory drive system

Annular combustor with 30 fuel injectors.

Variable stator vanes maintain efficient compressor performance

by aerodynamically directing airflow to N2 at optimum angles

appropriate to power demand

Variable stator vanes controlled by fuel pressure from Main

Engine Control Unit (MEC)

Twelve variable bleed valves mounted around the

circumference of the N1 compressor

Bleed air from 2nd, 3rd and 4th stages prevent

compressor stalls during acceleration & deceleration

N1 is controlled by fuel pressure from Main Engine Control Unit

(MEC), N1 is function of N2.

The VBV are Installed between low and high pressure compressor

Bleed air off the compressor into fan duct

Open at low compressor speeds

Closed when operating at high rpm

IGV and 1st five stages N2 compressor have variable guide

vanes

IGV and variable stators mechanically interconnected

Closed at low engine rpm

Full open at high rpm

Variable bleed valves, IGV and variable stators are

“hydraulically” operated by fuel pressure as function of N2 speed

and CIT
