SETTING• A setting in a story is the

environment in which the story will take place.

• The setting also referred to the background. It also shows the time in which the event occurred.

• The setting exists in every form of action, representing not only the time; also will show the place and the social context throughout the work.

• . The setting in “A Rose for Emily” is Faulkner’s fictitious post-civil war small town in the deep south of the United States.

• The uses of Faulkner of this particular time period are successful in giving the reader an understanding or background to the values and beliefs of the characters in the story.

• In Kate Chopin's short story, The Story of an Hour shows a short hour of a woman's life.
