InstallationEyewashes:(plumbedorselfcontained)shouldbepositionedwiththesprayheadsnotlessthan33inchesfromthesurfaceinwhichuserstandsandminimumof6inchesfromthewallornearestobstruction.GravityFedEyewash:Positioneyewashunitsothatflushingfluidcanbedischargedinacollectiontankorotherdrainagesystem.Typicallygravityfedeyewashescanbemountedonawall,placedonashelfortransportedtoaspecificjobsite.Showers:Thefaceoftheshowerheadshallnotbelessthan82inchesormorethan96inchesfromthesurfaceonwhichtheuserstands.Thespraypatternshallhaveaminimumdiameterof20inchesthatis60inchesabovethesurfaceonwhichtheuserstands.Thecenterofthespraypatternshallbeatlease16inchesfromanyobstructions.Showerpullrodhandleshouldbenomorethan69inchesabovethefloor.

EyewashTestGaugePlaceeyewashgaugeontopoffluidstreamandlowerapproximately11/2inchesintofluidstream.Theeyewashpatternshouldcovertheareasbetweentheinteriorandexteriorlines.
GravityFedEyewashTestUsinga1galloncontainerandatimingdevice,collect1gallonofflushingfluidatthestartoftheflow.Recordtimerequiredtofillcontainer.Usingaflowmeterorotherdevice,determineflowrateisatleast.4GPM(GallonsPerMinute)@minimum15minutes.ShowerTestUsingashowertestertentandbuckettocollectdrainwateranddraininnearbysink.Themosteffectivelyconductedbytwopeopleoneonastepstool/ladderholdstheshowertentinplace,thesecondoperatethevalves,determineflowrateisatleast20GPM(GallonsPerMinute)@minimum15minutes.

Advantagestousingeyesalineflushingsolutioninsteadofwateringravityfedorpersonaleyewashstations:Eyesalineisabuffered,isotonicsalinesolution.BufferedtothesamepHbalanceofthehumaneye.Italsocontainsapreservativetohelpreducethebacterialgrowth.Tapwatercancontainchlorineandotherchemicals.Thiscancausefurtherirritationtotheeyes.Italsohasthepotentialforbacteriagrowth.Whentapwaterisused,weeklysolutionreplacementisstronglyrecommendedasbacteriacangrowrapidlyinstandingwater.Eyesalineneedstobereplacedeverysixmonths.
