Measuring for medical gloves:

Procedure:

The measurements to be takenafter edema removal depend on the type of treatmentrequired for the hand. Duringthe mea surements the patientsits with the arm slightly angledand the palm of the hand facingupwards on the table.

Preconditions:

The extremity should be largelyfree of edema before measuring for the glove. The degree of edema can bechecked before measuring bypress ing firmly with the finger: if edema is present, pitting isobserved which does not

1. Determine measurement point A on theinner and outer edge of the hand at thelevel of the 5th MCP (little finger webspace).

2. Measurement point B is located on thepalm of the hand at the level of the webof the thumb.

Tip for measurement point B: To determinemeasurement point B place a JOBST Flexi-Card at a right angle to the web space of the thumband across the palm of the hand.

3. Measurement point C is located at thedistal flexion crease.

4. Measurement point C1 depends on theshape of the forearm and is about 3-5 cm above C. This is where the gloveshould end.

5. Measure circumference A with the handlaid flat.

6. Measure circumference B with the handlaid flat.

7. Measure circumference C at the wrist.Important! Do not pull the tape measuretight.

8. Measure circumference C1 at the markmade previously (measurement notrequired for an arm sleeve A-G1 or C-G1).

9. Measure length A-B on the inside surfaceof the hand.

10. Measure length A-C on the inside surfaceof the hand.

11. Measure length A-C1 on the inside surfaceof the hand and arm.

1. Determine finger length from X (web) tothe variable endpoint Z (desired end ofglove finger, usually no longer than nailbed). Tip: Using a JOBST Flexi-Card placedin the web, the finger length X-Z can bedetermined in a single step.

2. Determine circumference Z. 3. Measure circumference X at the base ofthe finger. Follow the same procedure todetermine the circumferences and lengthsof all the fingers.

immediately disappear. If thisis the case the patient shouldnot be measured forcompression garments and theextremity should first bedecongested (e.g. bycompression bandaging andmanual lymph drainage).

The following auxiliary materials are required:

Marker pen, ball point pen, tape measure, size sheet

Measuring for finger portions

Finally, take the length measurements for the glove:

Then measure the circumferences:
