Dallas TOD: HUD Challenge Grant Planning Update

Background • City was awarded a $2.225 million grant
under the HUD Sustainable Communities Challenge Grants program in 2010.
• Grant funds are available for planning and pre development assistance related to affordable housing and TOD during a three-year period
• Fregonese Associates was selected from 12 firms to carry out the planning activities related to the grant.

There are five separate plans being developed:

Next Steps • Developer roundtable in later this week to obtain Dallas
developer feedback on catalyst project feasibility • Focus groups planned for October for additional
community input • Catalyst projects will be designed to be complete
development proposals with financial and design considerations
• Present opportunity sites, transportation enhancements for better DART access and area plans to public in October meetings – Obtain additional feedback prior to presentation to
Dallas City Council in December/January • Upon completion of area plans, City will issue Call for
Projects to solicit study area projects seeking grant funding for preconstruction and land acquisition
