THE ELECTRIC BUS IS THE OPPORTUNITY TO RETHINK THE BUS…

« TODAY, AN ELECTRIC BUS REMAINS A BUS »

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE TECHNOLOGICAL TRANSFORMATION TO GENERATE A TRANSFORMATION OF THE URBAN BUS:

• Usage, comfort: serving a better customer experience• Image: generate a status upgrade of bus mode

RELY ON THE EBSF2 RESEARCH PROJECT TO OBTAIN COMMITMENT FROM THE BUS PROFESSION:

• Much more than a report from the UITP Design & Culture platform• Applicable recommendations, pre-validated by:

• Buyers (networks: operators and urban organizing authorities)• Suppliers (manufacturers and equipment suppliers)

BUS DESIGN WORKFLOWS

A DOUBLE CYCLE

• The classical red cycle doesn't allow big vehicles evolutions• The black cycle isn't efficient without important purchases promises• The Design charter tries to address both cycles combined

UITP11

1. Design brief (mid 2016):• Identification of the domains needing a design specification

2. Design recommendations (End 2017):• Comprehensive illustrations of each validated domain• Adjustment and validation by the UITP working bodies• Presentation to the stakeholders

(Manufacturers : Brussels, 27th September 2017)

• Adjustment and finalization

3. Edition of the Design charter (Beginning 2018)

4. Dissemination (May 2018)

The choice of an unique and extreme architecture allows to push the reasoning. Elements of the charter may be used independently of architecture

CREATING A SMART ARCHITECTURE

UITP

Thus, whether batteries (1) are placed on the roof or floor, whether the engine (2) is placed at the front or at the rear, whether gates (3) are centered or located at the ends, whether the wheels (4) are placed symmetrically or conversely, the result will be a new architecture that will allow the evolution of the bus mode.
