Why Olympus?
You’re about to make a decision. Olympus?
Or some other brand? Naturally, we think it should
be Olympus.
We could point out that in 1920, we gave Japan its
first microscope. Our long experience with optics has
resulted in the clearest, most distortion-free lenses
the world has ever known. And the quality of the
lens is the single most important factor in
determining the quality of your picture.
But it goes beyond that. It has more to do with the
all-consuming dedication to excellence that produced
those advanced optics in the first place. The dedication
that has driven the company from the very beginning.
Our dedication can be seen in the long string of
innovations we’ve introduced over the years. It can be
seen in the extreme level of performance, durability
and ease of use that’s in every Olympus product. And
most importantly, it can be seen in your pictures.
We suggest you research your decision carefully.
Consider what you’ll get for your money. Money's too
hard to earn to waste a single dollar. Then make a
good decision.
And of course, if you end up going with Olympus
this time, you’ll find that next time, you won’t really
have a decision to make.
E10SLR
The digital Camedia E-10 SLR was
designed from the very beginning to please
the most demanding photographer. It’s a
camera that was designed from the very
beginning to be digital.
The E-10 SLR was born out of our
desire to develop a truly digital camera.
One in which all components were
rethought from a digital perspective, and
designed to work together to deliver ultra
high-resolution digital photographs.
Very quickly, though, it became clear
that current technology could no longer do
what we asked of it. So we did what we’ve
always done. We developed new technology.
The most significant result is the E-10’s

digital lens. Never before has a lens been so
perfectly designed for digital photography.
Combine it with shutter release lag
times of under 60 milliseconds, full control,
our exclusive TruePic™ technology and all
the flexibility of digital photography, and
you have a camera like no other.
Would you like pictures like no other?

E-10 SLR. See what we’ve done with digital
photography. Then go out and see what you
can do with it.
E10SLR
The E-10 SLR features a fully multi-
coated, 14-element, 11-group lens with ED
and aspherical glass and an f 2.0 – 2.4 4x
zoom. That alone tells you this is no ordi-
nary lens, digital or otherwise.
But the real story behind the E-10’s
lens is in the way it captures an image.
In a film lens, an image carried by
light is directed at a layer of silver halide
below the film’s translucent surface. Since
this layer is flat, light can expose the film
from any angle and still result in excellent
focus and resolution.
Our exclusive Olympus TruePic™ technology uses every pixel to
make your image, at all resolutions. It then micro-smooths the
pixels to provide true continuous-tone images.
In a digital camera, the surface of the
CCD is made up of pixels. These pixels are
tiny wells that record the information car-
ried by light. In the E-10’s 4.0 million pixel
CCD, the pixels are so small that angled
light won’t fill them properly. So to take full
advantage of the E-10’s advanced CCD, we
The E-10’s lens refracts light directly into the pixel
wells, filling them with information properly.
developed a lens that would direct light
precisely into each pixel well, filling them
properly and resulting in exceptionally fine
focus and resolution.
Of course, there’s a much simpler way to
understand what this new technology means.
Just take a look at one of the E-10’s pictures.
Film lenses refract light at an angle. A good
technology for flat film.
The very latest in d igi tal technology comes together in the Camedia E-10 SLR. I ts many revolut ionary parts
combine to give you except ionally sharp, r ich, large pr ints.
The E-10’s all-in-one lens design
allows us to perfectly match the
lens to the precision camera CCD.
It also lets us seal the camera
body, keeping damaging dust
away from the CCD.
A lens designed for truedigital photography.
Designed to be digi tal . From the inside out .
Photographers demand a lot from their cameras. So do we. We designed the E-10
SLR with features that make you want to reach for it every day, along with the durability
that makes it tough enough to be used every day.
If you’re serious about your pictures, this is the digital camera that will finally allow
you to capture the photos you’ve always wanted.
The all-aluminum body performs two important functions. It acts as
a heat sink to keep the high-resolution CCD cool and keep electronic
noise out of your pictures. And it provides the strength to make the
E-10 a durable, daily use camera.
The E-10’s advanced metering system
quickly determines exposure under
a variety of difficult lighting condi-
tions. Use digital ESP multi-pattern
metering, center-weighted metering
or spot metering.
The fully multi-coated, 14-element,
11-group, ED and aspherical glass
4x zoom lens was designed
specifically for high-resolution
digital photography.
The E-10 is Storage Class USB. It
mounts on your computer with no
additional software, and allows
you to open images from within
your applications.
The E-10 has a built-in, multi-
mode, scene-detecting flash. Or
you can attach the optional FL-40
external flash, which is a scene-
detecting flash with the E-10, to
the hot shoe. Or use studio strobes.
The E-10 SLR features dual media
slots, to accept SmartMedia™ and
CompactFlash™ (Types I and II)
simultaneously, and allow you to
copy from card to card.
The three-position LCD color monitor
operates in standard position (flush
against the camera body), 90˚ up to
let you shoot down to ground level
easily, and 20˚ down for viewing
overhead shots.
E10SLR
E10SLR
you can use the manual focus ring as you
would on a traditional SLR, up to as close as
8" in macro mode.
Sometimes greatness is spontaneous.
Sometimes it’s well-planned. That’s why the
E-10 gives you the option of fully automatic
controls or fully manual controls.
Like to always be ready? The E-10
SLR’s dual autofocus system is precise and
lightning-fast. Nothing will get by you. Or
If you’re used to instinctively focusing
manually, you’re probably also the kind of
photographer who will appreciate the E-10’s
manual zoom ring. And since it works inde-
pendent of the exposure controls, you can
shoot and zoom at the same time.
For rich, true colors and clean whites,
the E-10 gives you a number of ways to set
white balance. You can choose iESP (intelligent

balance. Or choose from seven preset white

balance settings ranging from 3000˚K to
7500˚K. Or set the one-touch manual white
balance using a sheet of white paper, for
example, as a reference point.
To help you quickly dial in on your
exposure, switch on auto bracketing to take
three quick images of your subject. The first
shot will be underexposed, the next frame
normal and the last frame overexposed. You
can bracket in 1/3, 2/3 or full stops.
Another valuable tool the E-10 gives
you is a histogram. During image playback,
a bar graph displays distribution of lights and
darks to help you adjust exposure. It’s a quick
way to tell if whites might blow out or blacks
might plug up.
The E-10 SLR’s histogram.

excels in that area, too.
As you’d expect, the E-10’s built-in flash
operates in a variety of modes. You can
choose from auto flash for low- and back-
light conditions, red-eye reducing flash,
fill-in (forced on) flash and flash off to take
advantage of natural light.
And going beyond what you’d expect
from a digital camera of this caliber, the
E-10’s flash is an exclusive scene-detecting
flash. So if your subject is standing off to one
side at dusk, the flash compensates and
makes sure the right amount of light is fired.
You can also attach our optional FL-40
Photography is theart of using l ight .
Aside from its many exposure controls,
the E-10 SLR offers other ways to help you
use light to make beautiful pictures.
In-camera metering is fast and accurate
in a variety of difficult lighting situations.
Our digital ESP multi-pattern metering
measures light from multiple areas of the
image. Center-weighted metering concen-
trates on light in the center of the viewfinder.
And Spot metering concentrates on a much
smaller area (about 1.6%) in the center of
the viewfinder.
Of course, another way photographers
work with light is by generating it. The E-10
external flash to the E-10’s hot shoe. You’ll
increase your flash distance to more than 30
feet, and have greater control. When used with
the E-10, the FL-40 also works as a scene-
detecting flash. And for studio work, a PC
Sync lets you easily connect to studio strobes.
The E-10 SLR handles the most
difficult and diverse lighting
conditions with ease. For
instance, it faithfully captures
every nuance of Hollywood’s
magnificent Pantages Theatre.

These extension lenses are fully multi-coated and
are perfectly matched to the E-10 SLR’s 4x zoom lens.
Without the included lens hood, you’d need one hand
to hold your E-10, one hand to adjust manual focus or
zoom, and one hand to shade your lens from direct light.

With a wireless remote, you can trigger the shutter
from a distance.

The E-10 SLR is more thana camera. I t ’s a system.
The FL-40 external flash fits on the E-10’s hot shoe
and gives you greater distance and control. Plus it’s a
scene-detecting flash on the E-10.
It’s all about options. The more you
have, the more you can do. The digital E-10
SLR is a professional-level system that
offers a variety of lenses, long-lasting
batteries and flash accessories. All of
which work together to give you the
stunning pictures you’re after.
With a cable release, you can avoid
shaking the camera at slow shutter
speeds. It also has a lock on it for
bulb exposures.
Our Lithium Polymer battery grip gives you up
to 750 shots. It also gives you a comfortable
vertical grip with an additional shutter release
button right where you need it.
A leather case is just what you need to protect your
camera between brilliant shots.
