E3 RAP-STAR SERIESCOUNTER-FLOW DRUM MIXERSThe E3 RAP-Star line of continuous counter-flow drum mixers marks the newest technology in drum design, combining high productivity and high RAP percentage capabilities with simplicity and reliability.
CaptionsOpposite top: E3 RAP-Star stationary installation.Opposite bottom: E3 RAP-Star’s industry leading veiling section viewed from the slinger end of the drum.Above right: E3-500P RAP-Star on portable chassis.
Available in both portable and relocatable arrangements, the continuous
full length main drum is surrounded by an outer RAP preconditioning
jacket that fully heats RAP before mixing with asphalt cement enabling
the CMI E3 RAP-Star the ability to produce premium asphalt mixtures
with high RAP percentages at high moisture levels.
The E3 RAP-Star design features three heat transfer zones: convective,
radiant and conductive. Virgin aggregates are dried and heated in the
convective zone, RAP and variable percentage of virgin aggregates are
heated in the radiant zone between the main drum and outer jacket and RAP
shares heat by commingling, mixing and churning with virgin aggregate
in the conductive zone as it mixes with the injected asphalt cement.
Renowned for its high performance and RAP capabilities, CMI’s E3
RAP-Star drum series also continues as an industry leader in low
emissions by employing an extremely fuel efficient process timing
technology while also mitigating hydrocarbon emissions from the mixing
stage by drawing fugitive fumes into the exhaust gas stream thereby
incinerating them in the drum combustion zone.

FEATURES• Side entry recycle entry located at the beginning of the radiant
heat transfer zone.
• Steel construction utilizing high strength alloys and heat-
durable stainless steel.
• High RAP capability
• High performance in high moisture environments.
• Tunable veiling zone.
• 100% bolt-in flighting.
• Retro-fittable to any brand asphalt drum mix plant.

Inlet spirals effectively move the cold virgin aggregate into the drying zone no matter what the slinger conveyor position.
RAP ENTRYCold, wet RAP is introduced into the outer shell, where it is blended with a proportion of hot aggregate and hot dust removing excess moisture before the introduction of asphalt cement (bitumen)

Urban plant sites are ideally suited for an upgrade to CMI’s E3 RAP-Star continuous drum
mixer. Whether your plant is still operating a parallel flow or an early model counter-flow drum
mixer, the fuel efficiency and hydrocarbon emission reduction technology in the E3 RAP-Star
will greatly reduce your company’s carbon footprint in one easy step.
Asphalt pavement is one of the most recycled materials worldwide with
millions of tons recycled each year.
CMI’s E3 RAP-Star continuous drum mixer, features the newest process
timing technology to come along in the industry in the past twenty years.
CMI’s revolutionary concept is how and when, virgin aggregate and RAP
materials are exposed to and thereby absorb the drying and heating
energy. The E3 RAP-Star’s unique material flow, enable the drum to
produce premium mix quality even with high RAP percentages at no
additional fuel costs than running 100% virgin mix. This fuel saving
combined with significant reductions in hydrocarbon emissions previously
unattainable by other continuous drum mixers, differentiate production
plants running E3 RAP-Star’s into a class by themselves.

MAGNUM SERIES COUNTER-FLOW DRUM MIXERSThe original, high performance counter-flow unitized drum mixer, the Magnum series has set the standard for more than thirty years, in mix quality and durability still out of reach by other manufacturers.
Considered by many as the industry bellwether, the Magnum still sets the
industry standard for a unitized drum mixer.
The efficiency and predictability of daily performance of the CMI
Magnum series has proven to be valuable to operators of large stationary
installations as well as highly mobile paving companies running CMI
Super Portable series of asphalt plants.
Pictured at right, CMI Super Portable series of asphalt plants have proven
to be extremely cost effective for highly mobile production operations.
Designed to need no cranes to fully erect the plant, a minimum number
of electrical and data connections and necessary equipment preinstalled
to make the plant on 3,000psi soils makes the CMI Super Portable series
as close to a ‘go anywhere’ plant as any on the market.

VENTURI-MIXER SERIES PARALLEL-FLOW DRUM MIXERSYears ago, CMI introduced the first parallel-flow recycling drum mix plant capable of producing RAP mixes while enabling operators to maintain productivity and acceptable emission control.
The key to efficient operation of these plants lies in a design concept
which provides optimum fuel combustion and control of heat transfer to
both virgin and recycle aggregates.
These designs utilize sophisticated flighting that makes use of radiant,
forced convection and conductive heat transfer with minimal shell loss.

LIME ADDITIVE SYSTEM With more jurisdictions requiring lime treatment to cold feed aggregates, CMI offers a range of mineral filler systems designed for maximum uptime and high material control accuracy.
FILLER SILOSPORTABLE & RELOCATABLE CMI mineral filler silos are installed on many brands of asphalt plants and used whenever additives such as hydrated lime are added or when design specifications require precise modifications to the fine aggregate (dust) portion of the asphalt mixture.
Additional configurable items include single or dual axle transport
packages to meet local regulations. CMI also offers all the recycle bins
and feeder systems with options such as grizzly-bars atop the bins,
complete with vibrators, pneumatic cannons to ensure regular feeding,
scalping screens, RAP lump breakers and a permanent magnet to help
remove ferrous metals from the RAP materials.
In addition to replacement parallel flow drums, CMI’s counterflow drums
are readily available in sizes of 150, 200, 225, 275, 300, 400, 500, 600

Whether your operation utilizes the Dry Injection, Dry-on-Damp or Slurry
method, CMI lime additive systems and precise material control will
optimize the benefits of lime to your asphalt mixtures.
Numerous authorities over a wide range of geographies have mandated
the use of lime modified mixtures as anti-stripping agent, improve
mixture stiffness and reduce rutting and cracking. The use of lime
modified HMA mixtures is also used to reduce oxidation and aging of the
placed asphalt.
Available with various material conveying methods including screw
augers and pneumatic, combined with vane feeders, pugmills and
computer controls exacting specifications are achieved through the use
of volumetric and gravimetric measurement to deliver unmatched mix
quality.
Available in 500BBL (57m3), 700BBL (79m3) and 900BBL (102m3)
capacities these silos are highly configurable.
