Dreaming More - Brown Bag Lunches
In the June 19th Forecaster, I encouraged you to dream. Dream about ministry.
Dream about God’s work in the world. And, specifically, to dream bigger dreams
that we could come up with ourselves, because, when we dream big, we begin
to dream in ways that overlap with God’s dreams and presence in the world.
The reason I bring this up again is because language around dreams and big dreams, is often merely rhetoric. Too often, we are encouraged to dream big,
and, “Shoot for the moon. [Because] Even if you miss, you'll land among the
stars.” In far too many cases, the encouragement to dream is fodder for com-
mencement speeches and motivational talks. But in the Kingdom of God, words
around dreams are more than inspiring ideas. God is not an idea and Jesus’ call
to make change in the world is not a theoretical or metaphorical call. It is an actual one. God really put us here to bless and change the world. In an effort to put aside the theoretical and ideological dreams, and to help us get to work, we will have two Brown Bag Lunches this summer. In each of these, we will hear people who have stepped out of their dreams and are serving God in unique and powerful ways. On Thursday, July 23 at 12:30, Marc and Kim Wyatt will be with us in the Church Family Center, to talk about their work as CBF Field Personnel here in the Triangle. On Thursday, August 13, George Linney, the Pastor of Tobacco Trail Church, will be with us to share about his unique ministry as a pastor in our local running community. Both of these events are open to everyone and I hope these events will help us take
God’s big dreams and put them to work in
this world. Peace, Chris
