Objective: Review the structures and functions of major organs of 5 body (organ) systems.

* Standard: High School-Life Science 1-2 9th grade biology… How do the structures (anatomy) of organisms (living things) enable life’s functions (physiology)?

* Standard: High School-Life Science 1-2 9th grade biology… Investigate explanations for the hierarchical (flow chart) systems of organisms and the role of specialized cells for maintenance and growth.

* Standard: High School-Life Science 1-2 9th grade biology… Demonstrate understanding of how systems of cells function (physiology) together to support the process of life.

See your yellow folders…

Work with your lab group only to label 6 more body systems. Directions: Review your group roles. Send your scientist to pick up 6 pictures. Cut out each picture and label each organ/body systems. Do you remember learning about the major organs of these body systems last year?

spinal cord, nerves. n  Physiology (Function):

Recognizes and coordinates the body’s response to changes in its internal and external environments.

2. The Digestive System n  Anatomy (Structures):

Mouth, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, small and large intestines, rectum.

n  Physiology (Function): Breaks down and absorbs nutrients. Helps remove waste from body.

3. The Urinary System n  Anatomy (Structures):

Kidneys, ureters, urinary bladder, urethra.

n  Physiology (Function): Eliminates waste products from the body.

4. The Endocrine System n  Anatomy (Structures):

Hypothalamus, pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, adrenals, pancreas, ovaries (in females), testes (in males).

n  Physiology (Function): Controls growth, development and metabolism.

5. The Reproductive System Female

n  Anatomy Structures: ovaries,

Fallopian tubes, uterus, vagina. n  Physiology (Function): Produces

reproductive cells, nurtures and protects developing embryo.

5. The Reproductive System Male

n  Anatomy (Structures): Testes, epididymis, vas deferens, urethra, and penis

n  Physiology (Function): Produces reproductive cells.

Directions: Match the organ with the correct organ/body system.
