Update on Organizational Issues

• OSGug has just completed elections for two open TC seats…Marty Burns, and John Simmins are the two new members

• EC has just completed elections for three open seats for OSG representation…Aaron Snyder, Gary Stubbing, Klaus Bender are the three new members

• Will be seeking nominations for three more EC members.

UCAIug 2011 Plan• 2011 we will focus on member recruitment

– Being in contact with existing members– Customer Satisfaction Survey– Revising membership structure– Tightening document access – Increasing meeting costs for non-members– Complete IPR and put in place

UCAIug 2011 Plan, cont..

• Last year we started acquiring equipment required for meeting support…projectors, phones, room sound systems.

• For 2011 the goal is to:– Streamline meeting planning process– Minimize charges where possible– Use hotel staff to install and manage UCAIug supplied

equipment– Use additional technical support where needed for

A/V.

UCAIug 2011 Plan, cont…• 2011 Daily Operations

– Continuing support of SGIP– Identify tasks that where additional/other resources

can be used– Use proceeds from Meetings to pay for additional

resources as available– Streamline credit card collections accounting process

• Now Using PayPal for all cards• Automating Data Collection & Reporting

– Meeting registration process• Now using RegOnLine…evaluate using Cvent

How to address new areas?

• Prepare technical reports "how to use IEC 61850 for... "• Technical reports describing

– The use cases considered– The impact on the communication– The impact on the modeling– The impact on the engineering

• Results will be used to update the standards (Amendment / new Edition)

WG10 technical reports

• IEC 61850-90-1: Using IEC 61850 for communication between substations (published)

• IEC 61850-90-2: Using IEC 61850 for communication between substations and control center

• IEC 61850-90-3: Using IEC 61850 for condition monitoring• IEC 61850-90-4: Network engineering guidelines• IEC 61850-90-5: Using IEC 61850 to transmit synchrophasor

information according to IEEE C37.118

WG17 technical reports

• IEC 61850-90-6: Using IEC 61850 for distribution automation• IEC 61850-90-7: IEC 61850 object models for photovoltaic,

storage and other DER inverters• IEC 61850-90-8: IEC 61850 object models for electrical

vehicles• IEC 61850-90-9: IEC 61850 object models for battery storage

systemsProvide a "fast track" for urgently needed models for

SmartGrid applicationsSupported by the name space concept of IEC 61850

Other activities

NIST needs organization(s) to pilot IPRM

February 1, 2010UCA IUG Testing Past, Present, and Future

25

UCA Pilot of NIST IPRM UCA has volunteered to pilot IPRM

UCA procedures almost meet IPRM UCA status will be improved

Some changes needed: UCAS and testers UCA to become Guide 65 Certification Body

UCA must adopt formal quality management sys UCA will issue (sign off on) certificates

Testers to become 17025 certified/compliant Tester will not have final say on certificate issue UCA will review the “tester file” before cert issued

February 1, 2010UCA IUG Testing Past, Present, and Future

26

UCA Pilot of NIST IPRM (cont.) 2011 is transition year for IPRM

User Group need to declare ITCA intent Lack of progress nullifies that declaration

Changes needed Create quality manual for UCA testing Have testers upgrade 9001 -> 17025 Remove tester authority to issue certificates Significant per-test UCA work(review all tests) Testing fees might be considered
