Catching up with your

Lieutenant Governor Hakuna Matata my little lions! This month of July flew by so quickly and August has just started. Many great things are happening and I’m so excited we get to end our summers with service and sun! I’m so excited for the upcoming events this month including the August DCM, which is a service project / Barbeque! Seattle Rally was honestly so amazing and I’m so glad so many members from our division attended such a huge event. I’m looking forward to reppin’ that 20M pride at DCON and some upcoming joint DCM’s. I hope everyone who came to Seattle Rally had as much fun as I did! The August edition will be including a wrap up Of the July DCM, Seattle Rally attendee’s as Well as an update on who our new International Trustee is for our District! Enjoy!

Hey Key Clubbers, Summer is finally here, and I hope all of you are kicking back and relaxing after a long school year’s end. All of you have put so much effort into the last school year, from taking AP and IB classes, to being in multiple clubs and activities, to all of your endless community service that you have done. To the seniors a special congrats on finishing high school, you guys have worked especially hard. I hope the memories of the last years in high school will carry with all of you, and I hope you know all the service you have done in the last few years, has been changing the lives of others. To the club members, remember that when the sun is out, it is a great chance to grab a few friends and serve, and that service doesn’t end when the school year does! Continue all of your hard work because when you give a little love, you get a little love back, when you give a lot of love, you get a lot of love back. The amount of effort you put into serving is the amount you get back, from seeing a smile from the kid who just got a card at children’s hospital, to packing a meal for a hungry family who lives in the neighborhood. The more and more you serve, the more and more you will see the community being affected, by the love and service you give to it. Remember that when you serve, give your whole heart to the project or fundraiser, and the results will soar. You are the change, with every good deed you do, no matter how big or small, it helps the people around you. From right around the corner to half way around the world, you guys are truly admirable. You give more than anyone could ever see or know, you guys don’t wish that you had the power to change the world, you know you have the power to change the world. Thank you all so much, and just remember, what you share with the world is what the world keeps of you.

A MESSAGE FROM THE

INTERNATIONAL TRUSTEE Hey, Pacific-Northwest! My name is Tashrima Hossain, and I’d like to introduce myself as the new International Trustee for your district. It is such an honor to be in your service, primarily by ensuring that your voices are heard at the international level during the upcoming year. I’m excited to join the PNW moose; I’ve already received so much enthusiasm from the Board, I’ve heard many great things about PNW, and I can’t wait to see all the great achievements your district has in store. To let you know a little about myself, I am from Cypress, Texas, which is a suburban area adjacent to the Houston border. In addition to Key Club, I devote much of my time to debate and Student Council— which often leaves with very little time for sleep! As a result, I’m a bit of a grandma, and I like spending much of my free time sleeping, reading, or just hanging out with friends. For those of you who would like to know more about my duties as International Trustee, I have a few basic responsibilities: attending International Board meetings, participating in a maximum of two district visits, and acting as a representative of the international level of Key Club. In addition, Governor Lisa and I completed a Governor- Trustee agreement, which identified the main expectations Lisa has of me, as your district’s Trustee; many of said goals revolve around constant communication and building positive Sister District relations—all of which are means to ensure that I effectively represent your views on the international level. Additionally, I serve with Jenalee Beazley, Rip Livingston, Liz Moore, and Nicole Lema on the Growth and Communications Committee. There, we predominantly focus on fostering a connection between advisors and Kiwanis clubs, making Key Club a school-wide name, creating a “cool factor” for Key Club, empowering local clubs to publicize their work, creating a strategic growth plan for KCI, and creating an annual club census. We already have a very specific set of goals and action steps for the first quarter; I plan to update you all with any progress in that arena. During my term, I will stay committed to the goals I campaigned with, but more than that, I intend to actively serve as a resource for you all. If you have questions about amendments, elections, service, or general Key Club knowledge, please don’t hesitate to r each out to me. Maria Palazzolo

Hello, Key Clubbers! My name is Maria Palazzolo, and I am so thankful to be your 2014-2015 Key Club International President! I was elected at the International Convention in Anaheim, California, about a month ago. It is a privilege to serve you and the rest of our 267,000 members.As Key Clubbers, we have a unique perspective of the world. We, as teenagers, get to make lasting impacts within our communities and throughout the world. I find it absolutely amazing that our organization is made of so many selfless individuals with one mission: to positively change the world. As your International President, one of my main goals is to make Key Club International more accessible to provide more ideas and opportunities to make your club the best it can be.On topics such as: The $.50 dues increase Grants available to fund club projects, such as the Youth Opportunities Fund. Twitter chats with International Board members Increased interaction through social media We will also be promoting the Eliminate Project, which is the Kiwanis family’s campaign to raise $110 million by the end of 2015 to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus from the face of the planet. It nears its completion at the end of the year, and we need to work tirelessly to meet our goal. I will work with our International Vice President, Kevin Zhang, and our eleven International Trustees to meet these goals to make this year a productive one for our organization.I hope to see all of you at our International Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, next summer! Imagine 2,000 people who are just as focused on helping others as you are. It’s an absolutely amazing time. Kiwanis and UNICEF joined forces to tackle iodine deficiency disorders, achieving one of the most significant public health successes of the 20th century. Now, they are eliminating MNT

from the face of the Earth. And in doing so, the project will reach the poorest, most neglected mothers and babies with additional lifesaving health care. The end of this one disease means the beginning of better health for so many families.

Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus. This deadly disease steals the lives of nearly 60,000 innocent babies and a significant number of women each

year. The effects of the disease are excruciating — tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions

and extreme sensitivity to light and touch.

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Key Club participates with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals by sponsoring fundraising events. Key Club members also participate in service projects at their local children’s hospital. Find out how you and your club can help CMNH.

UNICEF Since 1994, Key Club has been Trick-or-Treating for UNICEF and over the years has raised nearly US$5 million for iodine deficiency programs worldwide and HIV and AIDS programs in Kenya and Swaziland. Now it’s helping The Eliminate Project.

March of Dimes For decades, Key Club has partnered with the March of Dimes to give every baby a healthy start. Key Club members raise thousands of dollars annually through various programs, including collecting change, holding dances and taking part in March of Dimes’ signature event, March for Babies.

WHAT IS KEY LEADER?

Key Leader is a weekend experiential leadership program for today's young leaders. This life-changing event focuses on service leadership as the first, most meaningful leadership-development experience. A Key Leader will learn the most important lesson of leadership—it comes from helping others succeed.

What's up with

Division 20M

Name Change? At the District Summer Board Meeting on August 9th we

voted to change the name of Division 18/20M to DIvision

20M. It was changed because there are no clubs in Division

18 of Kiwanis, it wouldn't make sense to continue the name

Division 18/20M. We will be basing our cheers off the number 20M!

Because we serve others, until no end!

DCM RECAP! This month, our Divisional Council Meeting was held at

Hillcrest Park and we created spirit gear for Seattle Rally. It

was fun to create the T shirts for the Rally, as well as prepare

for the Rally and represent our 20M pride! Thank you lions,

that attended the last DCM!
