Idea of the project? What is this Software for? Why Open Source? Why it’s online software? Is Distants dublicating any other projects? Who are potencial sponsors of the project? Which technologies the project is based on? Information for newcomers
The more I think the more confused I get
To create a community, which will develope the leading international map analysis suite, which uses graphs theory to optimize decisions related to objects placing, net and routing, based on Google Maps APIs and mathematical graphs theory.
Idea
What is this software for?
To find the best way home from job or school or the shortest way to visit granparents or friend
abroad, to calculate how much it will cost...
To draw up an optimal plan of social transport, electricity or internet network...
To solve specific practical tasks related to graphs theory (eg. fing Hamilton, Oiler loops...)
As the community grows there will be more applications
It is more funny to work in the community of interesting enthusiasts than with employees
More people can make better software There are many ways to earn money from
open source You can’t buy love ...
Why Open Source?
“Open source does work, but it is most definitely not a panacea. If there's a cautionary tale here, it is that you can't take a dying project, sprinkle it with the magic pixie dust of "open source," and have everything magically work out. Software is hard. The issues aren't that simple.”
Jamie Zawinski
It runs on Linux, Windows, Mac or any other OS which supports web browsers.
Almost everyone who can afford computer also can afford internet and it is getting cheaper and faster.
There are many great technologies such as JavaScript, Ajax, php, HTML and CSS which enables to produce good
online software. Software can be used without installing it.
Why online software?
Nowadays it is hard to be without a rival
There are projects similar to Distants, but I couldn’t find any good analogues
For example “Google Maps Fastest Roundtrip Solver” is ok http://gebweb.net/optimap/, but it solves only one type of problems and does it with bugs (it was created by one person)
People need better free map web analysis software!
Is Distants dublicating any other projects?
Cities governments Postal services Companies which pay for programmers to
solve similar problems Individual donators Payments for extra servises and work You can be hired
Potential sponsors of the project
Find us on Facebook, where you can freely communicate with us. Feel free to ask
questions
Follow our posts, test software, report for bugs, offer your code... – show that we can trust you
Remember that project is at its very beginning so there are many areas you can help. Be ready for discrepancy in the beginning
