Dia de los Muertos or the ‘Day of the Dead’ is a special celebration in Mexico. It takes place on 1st and 2nd November each year. On this day, Mexicans celebrate the people that are not alive. To celebrate Dia de los Muertos, Mexican people make an ofrenda – a table with photographs, decorations and food on it. They decorate the table with marigold flowers. These are bright

orange flowers that smell very nice! They bake pan de muerto – a sweet bread with sugar, fruit and spices. It is delicious and they eat it with a cup of hot chocolate.

They make sugar skulls – a decoration in the shape of a skull. It is white with bright colours on it.

They also wear face paint. People decorate their faces like a skull with face paint or make-up.
