Devou Park Mountain Bike Trails

Location: Covington, on Sleepy Hollow Road (KY-1072)

Website: www.devouparktrails.com

Driving Directions: From Ludlow on KY-8, take Deverill Rd south

until it turns into Sleepy Hollow Rd. Enter Devou Park after crossing

the railroad track. Or from I-71/75, take exit 189 (Kyles Ln) and turn

north toward Dixie Hwy (US-42). Turn right on Dixie Hwy then take the 1st left on Sleepy Hollow

Rd (KY-1072). Stay on Sleepy Hollow Rd until entering Devou Park. There are parking lots are on

the south side of Sleepy Hollow Rd and on Montague Rd just off Sleepy Hollow on the north side.

There are maps at the trailheads near the parking lots.

Hiking Trail Miles: 11 different trails, ranging from .5 to 2.5 miles each, for a total of 8 miles.

They interconnect to allow many different routes of varying length.

Trail Features: The Devou trails are single-track, 16 inch wide dirt paths designed to meet

international mountain bike standards, but hikers and trail runners are welcome as well. Expect a

400 foot elevation gain with numerous switchbacks. Trail etiquette reads that bikes yield to foot

traffic. However, there are many places that, in the interest of safety, a walker should step off the

trail to allow a biker to pass, especially if they are barreling downhill. Wearing headphones is not

recommended since a hiker needs to listen for approaching bikers. This may not be the best trail

to hike with a group because conversations can drown out the sound of bikes and too many

people in one spot could increase the potential for accidents.

Dogs: Allowed on-leash, but be aware that fast moving bikes may spook them.

History: The Devou Park MTB Trails is an all-volunteer, all-donations effort, opened in 2010 with

continued improvement and expansion. Chad Irey, a local resident and outdoor enthusiast, was

the mastermind behind the plan to convert the unused acreage at Devou Park into a maze of off-

road trails. The trails are supported and maintained by the Cincinnati Off Road Alliance and the

Kentucky Mountain Bike Association.
