Why this Focus? o A large number of students need

developmental education. In FY 2008, 90,000 students in the

University System of Ohio are taking some developmental coursework

o Increase Dev Ed effectiveness and increase success rate particularly among low-income students and students of color

o Increase efficiency

data collection, funding, state policies

to support local efforts to enhance student success.

o Identify and publicize innovative developmental education practices among Ohio community colleges

o Determine need for further research and encourage cross institution research

o Convene a group of “innovators” to propose major redesign and engage 3 or 4 colleges to implement the proposal

o Survey community colleges to determine levels of dev ed courses offered
