SMECO Engineering Summary
Initial Contact Phase **You will be required to provide infonnation described on the Electric
Service Request Form (See pages 5-8 of this handbook).
**You will be assigned an engineer who will contact you back to set up a site meeting.
SMECO Engineering Verify availability and configuration ofelectric service.
Meet customer at project site.
Provide a copy ofthe "handbook".
Customer/Developer/Contractor/Electrician Review entire "handbook" and abide by all items pertinent to the project.
Submit a complete package ofall items that have been identified for engineering design to commence.
SMECO Engineering Review all infonnation received and provides comments back on approvals.
Designs the job.
Notifies Right-of -way/easement Dept.
Calculates construction costs and customer charges.
Pre-construction Phase Customer/Developer/Contractor/Electrician
Provides any outstanding revisions.
Provide signed agreements, contracts, inspections and payment.

ELECTRIC SERVICE REQUEST INFORMATION REQUIREMENTS

NEW SERVICE
Please provide the following Information so that SMECO can design a new service:
Electrlc Service Request Form: Fully oompleted Page 2 and 3 of this document for each meter requested.
Drawings: One set of County approved plans, which include the following: electrical, architectural, site plan, grading plan, storm water management, landscaping, topography, water, sewer, gas or other utilities (including utility profile drawings). Ifpossible, please submit on disk (AutoCAD) to expedite the design process. A requested meter and transformer location can be shown. All equipment locations are subject to SMECO approval.
Riser Diagram: Profile drawings(s) showing the layout and dimension of proposed service equipment. This diagram is to include all panel, CT cabinet. junction box, trough, transfer switch and otherservice equipment details and must be approved by SMECO orior to installation. A standard phone jack with dial tone is required at the metering location for services with expected demands above 500 kW (as calculated by SMECO).
Manufacturer Info: Manufacturer catalog cut sheets and/or drawings (including part numbers, ratings, dimensions etc.) are required to be submitted for SMECO approval for any of the following if being used: meter stacks, switchgear, generator automatic transfer switches. Note: All automatic transfer switches shall be of the open-transition (break before make) design. This must be indicated on the information provided. Jf electronic starting or other significant harmonic producing equipment is to be installed, a harmonic profile of the load at each harmonic up to the 50th multiple, is required. Equipment must meet IEEE 519 standard for harmonic generation.
SERVICE MODIFICATION OR UPGRADE
Please provide the following information for an existing service:
Electric Service Request Form: If modification pages 2 and 3; upgrade pages 2 and 3 - list added load only.
Drawings: One (1) set of drawings which reflect any remodeling to be performed (if applicable). Ifpossible, please submit on disk (AutoCAD) to expedite the design process.
Riser Diagram: See above description. Both the existing and new service arrangements shall be shown.
Manufacturer Info: See above description.

1. INSTALLATION OF THE UNDERGROUND ELECTRIC CONDUIT SYSTEM SHALL NOT BEGIN UNTIL THE CONTRACTOR RECEIVES SMECO APPROVED PROJECT DRAWINGS. THESE DRAWINGS ARE TO BE FOLLOWED IN CONJUNCTION WITH DRAWING A-4542 "GENERAL CONDUIT INSTALLATION GUIDELINES".
2. INSURE DEPTH OF CONDUIT IS BASED ON FINISHED GRADE ELEVATIONS.
3. THE DEVELOPER SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR SUPPLYING PROPERTY MARKERS, RIGHT-OF-WAY MARKERS, RADIUS OF CURVATURE MARKERS, SIDEWALK MARKERS, AND CURB MARKERS AS NEEDED FOR THE ELECTRICAL CONDUIT INSTALLATION BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER CONSTRUCTION.
4. SMECO MUST INSPECT THE UNDERGROUND ELECTRIC CONDUIT SYSTEM INCLUDING ALL OPEN TRENCHES. MAKE REQUEST VIA PROJECT POINT OF CONTACT . ..FUTURE INSPECTION POLICY IS UNDER DEVELOPMENT*
5. THE CONDUIT SYSTEM WILL BE OFFICIALLY ACCEPTED WHEN SMECO SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLS CABLE IN THE CONDUIT SYSTEM. ALL AS-BUilT DRAWINGS MUST BE SUBMITTED TO SMECO PRIOR TO FINAL ACCEPTANCE.
6. FIELD CHANGES TO THE CONDUIT DESIGN MUST BE APPROVED BY SMECO ENGINEERING IN WRITING.
7. THE DEVELOPER SHALL ENSURE THAT THE CONSTRUCTION SITE IS FREE FROM ANY OBSTRUCTIONS SUCH AS DIRT, LUMBER, CONCRETE BLOCK, ETC. THAT MAY PREVENT THE INSTALLATION OF THE ELECTRIC DISTRIBUTION CABLE SYSTEM.
8. THE DEVELOPER SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY AND ALL COMPACTION (IF NEEDED) WITHIN THE ROAD RIGHT-OF-WAY AND ON PRIVATE PROPERTY WHERE SMECO FACILITIES ARE LOCATED. SUCH FACILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO, TRANSFORMERS, ENCLOSURES, SWITCHES, ETC. AND INCLUDES ALL LANDSCAPING AND SWALE RECONSTRUCTION.
9. THE DEVELOPER MUST PROVIDE A TEN-FOOT UTILITY EASEMENT ALONG THE ROAD RIGHT-OF-WAY ON PRIVATE PROPERTY FOR ALL ROADS WITHIN THE DEVELOPMENT. ALL TREES, AND OTHER OBSTRUCTIONS, MUST BE REMOVED WITHIN THIS EASEMENT.
10. THE DEVELOPER SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE TO ENSURE SHRUBS, PLANTS, AND STRUCTURES ARE KEPT TEN (10) FEET FROM THE FRONT SIDE OF TRANSFORMERS AND ENCLOSURES AND THREE (3) FEET FROM THE OTHER SIDES. SMECO RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REMOVE ANY OBSTRUCTIONS WITHOUT NOTICE TO THE OWNER IF ANY DEVIATIONS FROM THIS STANDARD ARE ENCOUNTERED IN THE FIELD.
11. CITY, COUNTY, OR STATE PERMITS AND RAILROAD PERMITS AND RIGHT-OF-WAYS WILL BE OBTAINED BY SMECO AS NECESSARY. NO CONSTRUCTION CAN BE STARTED UNTIL ALL APPLICABLE APPROVED PERMITS ARE RECEIVED.
12. STREETLIGHTS AND SECURITY YARD LIGHTS ARE AVAILABLE FROM SMECO WITH DEVELOPER COST PARTICIPATION FOR LIGHTING MATERIALS. THE DEVELOPER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL CONDUITS FOR LIGHTING. CONTACT SMECO LIGHTING REPRESENTATIVE FOR FURTHER INFORMATION.
THESE SPECIFICATIONS REFLECT MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND SMECO RESERVES THE RIGHT TO ALTER OR IMPOSE MORE STRINGENT REQUIREMENTS AS NECESSARY.
