SOLAR GEYSERHeat Transfer Semester Project

Group Members:13-ME-7513-ME-8213-ME-9813-ME-9913-ME-100

Design:

Calculations:

Assumptions:• Steady state condition• On a normal sunny day ambient temperature is 25 °C• Temperature of input water is 20 °C (Tap water)• Thickness of plastic bottle (0.03mm) is negligible means no conduction from

surroundings to water, there will be only radiation.• Velocity of water inlet is 0.05m/s

Resistance Circuit Diagram:There will be three processes:

Steps Involved In Calculations:1) Heat transfer into water ()2) Value of heat transfer Co-efficient (h)3) Area of bottle4) Rise in temperature of water5) Heat loss6) Efficiency

Heat transfer into water:

Value of h for water:Value of h can be calculated using Nu no:

To find Nu number use following eq:

And Gr no is: Taking value of Pr No from table at 20°C

By putting all these values value oh h is 737.46Rise in Temperature of Water:

Area of bottle is calculated by formula:

T=32.55°CTemperature Difference=°C

Heat loss:

(K=0.0 3 x=0.7mm for aluminum foil thickness)

Efficiency:

Modeling:

ANSYS:

• ANSYS 15.0 is used to perform analysis• AUTOCAD drawing is imported in Fluent Flow • Models are defined• Materials are defined• Boundary conditions are defined• Solution Initialization is started• Results are obtained

Construction:Material Used:

Plastic BottlesAluminum foilPlastic pipe

Steps Involved in Construction:1) Cutting Bottles from bottles and joining them using CPVC solution

2) Joining Bottles in series using plastic pipes3) Cover back side of bottles with aluminum foil

• These bottles are fixed over a frame and head is provided to flow the water

Experimentation:Experiment Data:

Input temp= 28.2°COutput temp= 38.2°CAmbient temp= 33°C (4.00 PM, 23-05-2016)Increase in temp= 10°C (In 15 mins)

Comparison Between ANSYS and Experimentation Results:ANSYS Result:
