Transcript of departures. As we approach the end of the year there is an ...... · Industrial Action – Stop...

FROM THE PRINCIPAL:

Yesterday was our Kinder Athletics. It was a fabulous success with

children having lots of fun and a huge parent (grandparents and co)

turn up. I was very impressed with how our Grade 6 leaders ran

the activities. Congratulations to them.

Thank you to the Chappy BBQ team – very popular with our

families.

Whilst there have been a number of changes on education we are

working positively to provide the best opportunities for our

students in 2015.

The staffing allocation to all schools has been changed and we have

lost 1.7 teachers from our predicted entitlement although we have

the same number of students. This has meant careful thinking and

staff consultation to develop a plan for the best learning outcomes

for all students with a reduced amount of staffing. We are currently

working on a model of 23 classes Prep-6 instead of 24. It is

anticipated staffing will be later than in previous years and all class

teachers may not be known by the end of the year.

To manage resources we are considering running with full time

ICT/Library, Health and PE and a rotating timetable of Music 2

terms, Science and Drama. There will be reductions in our current

resource support and part of our Early Years program will be

managed differently. We will still buy 1.8 teachers from our budget.

Our organisation is subject to student numbers and there could be

changes over the holidays to class configurations if our numbers

increase or decrease.

We appreciate your understanding and support as we work through

this process. It will impact on staff in our school as there will be

less teacher positions in 2015 across schools.

Industrial Action – Stop Work Meetings

As you are no doubt aware through the media these meetings are

scheduled throughout the state on Thursday, 27 November in the

morning with staff returning to their workplace at 10.30am. It is

expected a vast majority of staff will attend these meetings.

Information regarding this will be provided next week in

consultation with the Department.

Outstanding Monies Owed to Riverside

Primary School

As a matter of urgency, any families with outstanding monies

owed to Riverside primary School, need to have these monies

paid at the school office by the 18 December, 2014.

If the debt is outstanding for the new school year, the debt will

be referred to the Department.

Once referred to Central Office the debtor will receive a letter

advising that the debt has been referred on from the school and

that they (the debtor) should contact the Department or make

Helping Hands and the UNICEF Awareness

Quiz

Prizes to be won and lots of things to learn. How?????

Your Helping Hands money this term is going towards

UNICEF (United Nations International Children’s

{emergency} Fund. We, the ruMAD team, have just had a

dinner to raise awareness and money to help children survive

past their fifth birthday. With our Helping Hands Money we

can all help UNICEF help children to provide bed nets so the

children don’t get bitten by mosquitoes and catch the tropical

disease malaria. Malaria makes millions of children very sick

and millions die every year. If they sleep under a bed net they

have a much better chance of staying alive. BUT, we also want

to have some fun and have a quiz so we all understand more

about children living in poverty.

Each person in the ruMAD team created a poster. They have

all the information you need for all the answers (except one-

you will have to hunt for this one!). All the posters are in the

hallway near the library. Copies of the quiz are at the office.

Entries close on Wednesday 26 November at 3 pm. When

you have finished the quiz take it (along with 50c sticky taped

to it) to the front office before school.

There are 2 prizes to be won. One prize is for the class that

has the most student entries (of good quality) handed in and

the other is for a single student who comes up with the best

and most detailed answers. So encourage ALL your

classmates to join in and win a class prize as well as learning

some things about our world and helping children stay alive-

Remember-All the answers are on the posters in the hallway

so there are no excuses for not having a go.

Aussie of the Month

Well done to Bailey Dubbeld, our September Aussie of the

Month. Bailey has been nominated by his peers who have used

these words to describe him: Bailey is kind and generous. He was

a good sportsman when we played the other day. Bailey played

fairly with me. Bailey is a good friend to everyone in the class.

Bailey is polite and waits his turn. Bailey is also very cool at

drawing, clever at building, funny and he always tries hard.

Congratulations to Bailey Dubbeld

Special Nominations: Samira Heidari, Mrs McNeair, Lily

Partridge, Imogen Burt, Ruby Richardson, Ella Walker

Other Nominations: Taylor Blackwell, Grace Matthews, Nourin

Amin, Micah Simpson, Jalen Priest, Jenna Brozek, Chloe Heiniger

(2AH)

Congratulations to Jessica Turner for being our October

Aussie of the Month. Jess has been described in the following

words by her peers. Jess is an awesome friend. She is caring and

happy, sweet and fun. Jess entertains us. She helps pack up and

organise things even when the mess isn’t hers. Jess has given up

lots of lunch and recess breaks to carry and clean and help over

the year. Jess thinks of others and is polite. She waits her turn

and lets others go first even when you know she is really looking

forward to something. Jess also is generous and looks for the

best in people as she is always nominating others for Aussie of

the month. Well done Jess.

Scholastic Australia Book Club

Book Club Issue 8 has arrived, the last one for the year. All

orders and payment need to be given to the classroom teacher

by TUESDAY 25 November. No late orders will be

accepted this year, they cause problems, so please make

sure that your order is presented by the due date. Thank

you.

Please follow the below reminders of what needs to be done

when ordering something from the brochures for your child/ren.

1. All order forms need to have your child’s name and

classroom details on them as well as on the envelope please.

Example: Joe Bloggs 2AH

2. If you are paying by cheque or money order, please make it

payable to Scholastic Australia Pty Ltd. (not Riverside

Primary School)

3. If you are paying by cash please ensure that you have the

right amount of money enclosed in the envelope – we are

finding it harder to get the right change from the note to

give back to you.

4. You can pay by credit card via the online payment system at

http://parentpayments.scholastic.com.au/ (Click on Book

Club payments) or via telephoning 1800 557 908 if this is

easier for you, Scholastic Australia Operators will give you a

receipt number, this has to be recorded on the bottom of

the order form; please complete this form totally with the

school’s name/suburb i.e. Riverside Primary School,

Riverside TAS 7250 and please make sure that this is given

with the order to the class teacher in an envelope with

student’s name on it. We cannot process your order if

there is only the receipt in the envelope; both

receipt and brochure orders are required. If you are

paying online or by telephone for all your children’s orders

please ensure that there is only one receipt number; all

order forms can be given to one teacher (eldest in the family

preferable); this way the order will come back to the eldest

child to bring home to all other child/ren in your family.

Deliveries from Scholastic Australia may take between 2-3 weeks

as they come from Sydney so please be patient and please explain

this to your child/ren. If there is a delay in any of the items you

have ordered it will be written on the invoice that the teachers

receive and the items will be delivered to your child/ren as soon

as it comes, also if there is a fault with any of the items please get

them to Miss Orders as soon as possible please. The issue only

stays open for 2 weeks after the due date back to the school.

If you have any concerns please do not hesitate to contact Miss

Orders at the school library, Tuesday and Wednesdays.

Thank you from the Book Club Organiser Miss Orders

RPSA NEWS (Riverside Primary School Association Inc)

REPORT FROM NOVEMBER RPSA MEETING

Thanks to all the parents who came along to our meeting this

week; it was great to see a good turnout for our last meeting

for 2014.

Points discussed were:

Anita Batty is preparing a submission for the Sporting

Schools Program in 2015. The program is now based on

schools forming partnerships with sporting groups to

provide sporting activities– Anita would welcome

assistance from any parents who may have contacts or be

able to assist with the submission

The submission for the continuation of our chaplaincy

program is being finalised

The RPSA has secured a very generous donation of

sunscreen which will be distributed to all classrooms in the

next few weeks – thanks to Riverside Capital Chemist &

Symbion

Earlier in the year the RPSA conducted a survey to

determine the need for a school bus service in the Riverside

area – response to the survey was poor so no further

action was taken. If any parents wish to express new

interest please contact myself.

The A-Thon has raised over $10,000 – thanks to the

school community for their overwhelming support of our

major fundraiser.

Staffing cuts for 2015 were discussed – the RPSA is unhappy

with the size of these cuts and will be contacting relevant

parties to state our concerns. We do thank Jane & all the

staff of Riverside for their commitment to providing a

positive learning environment and developing strategies to

minimise the effects of these cutbacks on the students

I would like to thank all the staff and parents of Riverside

Primary School for their support of the RPSA in 2014. It was

great to welcome some new faces and we would love to see

more new faces in 2015. Wishing everyone a safe and happy

summer break.
