Last Year’s Highlights

DRCOG released the 2nd version of the Regional Data Catalog using a Content Management System! Version 2 makes updates easier and includes new features like the Community Profiles, the Map Gallery, and a GeoRSS.

http://gis.drcog.org/datacatalog/

DRCOG developed the new Regional Data Catalog Cookbook API so that software developers can connect to and create “apps” on top of our publicly available data.

Our 4th Annual Regional Data Summit was held in January at REI.

Buildings Parcels Jobs

Planimetrics New subcommittee based on the DRAPP-

model

Objective – regional planimetrics layer

Focus – building footprints etc.

Timeline – after DRAPP deliverables are in

Next Meeting – Late April

DRAPP Denver Regional Aerial Photography Project

90% done with spring acquisition

Data served via WMS starting in early summer

Next DRAPP Meeting – April 25th

The DRDC Vision Increasing collaboration in the region; Sharing data across jurisdictional boundaries; Creating standards to ensure data consistency,

quality, and effectiveness; Creating and maintaining regional datasets.

Strategy for 2012Challenges SolutionsFinding enough time and staff to create regional datasets

Limit the number of subcommittees so we can focus resources across the region

Sustaining momentum within the subcommittee to achieve objectives

Assigning DRCOG staff to each subcommittee as a co-chair

Making the creation of regional datasets a priority/ explaining their value to management

Setting smaller, more frequent goals and making those successes more visible online – Data Catalog/ Web Map Gallery

Communicating progress and sharing success

Showing subcommittee progress spatially and sharing resultant data products through the Regional Data Catalog - http://www5.drcog.dev/datacatalog/Other challenges and solutions?

DRCOG Leadership DRCOG will provide a chair co-chair to each

subcommittee.

Goal: Ensure the success of the subcommittees by: Facilitating meetings; Strengthening communication within and between

subcommittees; Helping to set objectives; Managing project schedules; Providing technical advice to get over technology

hurdles.

Expectations for Members Subcommittee members can contribute by:

Providing existing data; Providing input and expertise; Allocating time to work on project objectives – during

and outside of subcommittee meeting times; Making a commitment to help determine and then help

achieve subcommittee objectives.

Return on Investment

As a subcommittee member, what do you get in return for your time, effort, and/or data? Better data; Regional standards; Hosted solution for data distribution through DRCOG’s

regional data catalog; DRCOG API for faster web map creation; DRCOG’s web map gallery; Increased collaboration and communication with your

neighbors.

Subcommittee/Dataset Brainstorming

What subcommittees should there be?

What datasets would be most useful?

What time commitment is reasonable?

Subcommittee examples:

• Special District & Administrative Boundaries

• Utility and Service Area Boundaries

• Open Space Types • Drainage/

Watersheds/ Flood Plains

• Small Communities • Bicycle Trails • Demographics • Energy• Sustainability

Determining the 2012 Direction

Limiting number of subcommittees so DRCOG and interested parties can take a more active role.

Survey to attendees following this meeting. Please indicate the committees that you would be willing to serve on, considering the expectations for time commitment.
