VOSS 5.0 - FABRIC EXTEND
OVERVIEW
Allows extension of Fabric Connect (SPBm) over third party transport networks – Introduces logical IS-IS NNI interface capability
– For IP tunneling, a VXLAN header is added to SPB packets
– For hub site using point to point Ethernet connections to spokes, logical IS-IS NNI interfaces with B-VID translation are used
Full fabric capabilities remain intact
Hub and Spoke as well as Mesh topologies are supported
Fabric Extend can be deployed over the following networks: – MPLS IP-VPN WAN to extend Fabric Connect to branch offices
– Campus IP Backbone (Fabric Connect deployment across legacy networking/competitor’s products)
– E-LAN/VPLS WAN Infrastructure (Hub and Spoke over Service Provider Layer 2 Broadcast segment)
– MPLS Pseudo-wire/E-Line (point to point) Ethernet Infrastructure (Hub and Spoke over Service Provider VLAN Tunnels) – uses Logical IS-IS interfaces at the hub site with B-VID translation

OPERATIONAL NOTES
Software baseline: VOSS 5.0 and ONA 1.0
Hardware baseline: (VSP 4000 +/- ONA), VSP 7200, VSP 8200 & VSP 8400
Premier license required on VOSS – VSP 4000, VSP 7200, VSP 8200 & VSP 8400
VSP 7200, 8200 and 8400 support VXLAN Tunneling in hardware, so no ONA is required
VSP 4000 does not support VXLAN Tunneling in hardware, hence an ONA is required to do the tunneling
– One ONA required per VSP 4000 where FE tunnels need to be terminated
Logical Interface Count per device or port:
– VSP 4450, VSP 7200, VSP 8200 and VSP 8400: 250
– VSP 4850: 24
Fragmentation and reassembly is required if IP MTU <1594 bytes
– VSP 4000 + ONA combination is required for fragmentation and reassembly wherever FE tunnels need to be terminated
– Fragmentation and reassembly in done by the ONA
– VSP 7200, VSP 8200 and VSP 8400 do not support fragmentation and reassembly
– Combining VSP 7200, VSP 8200 and VSP 8400 with ONA is not supported
The products below can be combined for FE if fragmentation and reassembly is not a requirement:
– (VSP 4000 + ONA), VSP 7200, VSP 8200 & VSP 8400
Optional Fabric Extend Manager with Avaya Fabric Orchestrator to manage tunnel configuration in an FE-domain

802.11AC WAVE 2
Multi User Multiple-In-Multiple-Out (MU-MIMO)
– Multi-User MIMO allows the spatial streams of an access point (AP) to be allocated across multiple receiving clients.
– 802.11ac MU-MIMO works by directing some of the spatial streams to one client and other spatial streams to other clients on the same channel, up to four at a time
Beam Forming
– A process by which the transmitter directs its energy towards the receiver to increase the SNR and data rate of the transmission.
– 802.11ac only utilizes Explicit Feedback beam forming.
– AP sends a pre-known sounding frame to a receiving client.
– The receiving client measures the difference between the original frame and the received frame.
– It then sends the measured differences back to the AP.
– The AP now knows the outbound RF characteristics of the channel and can apply adjustments to its transmitted frames.
Technological Advancements
© 2016 Avaya Inc. All right reserved 35
802.11AC WAVE 2
Spatial Streams
– 802.11ac Increases the number of antennas and spatial streams from a maximum of four on 802.11n to a maximum of eight contributing to a much higher maximum data rates (up to 6.93Gbps)
– Current Wave 2 Radios in the market support up to 4 Spatial Streams allowing for 4 User MU-MIMO.
– WAP9144 is a 4U MU-MIMO while most of the competitive 802.11ac Wave 2 APs in the market are 3U MU-MIMO.
Channel Bonding
– Combines eight adjacent 20MHz channels or two unique 80 MHz Channels into a single 160MHz channel providing increased throughput.
– Quadruples the band-width that is available with 40MHz channels in 802.11n
– Using 160MHz channels is not recommended for enterprise environments in order to avoid Co-Channel Interference in multiple AP deployments
Data Rates
– The combination of 160MHz channels and increased spatial streams up to eight enables the following data rates for 802.11ac Wave 2
