Reading 1: Micah 5:1-4 Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 80:2-3, 15-16, 18-19 Reading 2: Hebrews 10:5-10 Gospel: Luke 1:39-45
The King of Glory Comes… The readings this fourth week of Advent bring Micah’s prophecy closer to fruition in Mary’s visitation to Elizabeth. Out of Bethlehem will come the ruler of Israel. The readings continue to point us towards the Incarnation of God, in a lowly stable in the town of Bethlehem. In the visitation we see a number of important moments. It is the first meeting (albeit in utero) of John the Baptist, the one who will prepare the way, and Jesus. The presence of Jesus in the very sound of Mary’s voice causes John to leap in his mother’s womb. There is also recognition of Mary’s role in salvation history as the Mother of God when Elizabeth acclaims “Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb.” This visitation is a response to ancient prophesy by two very faithful Jewish women. It reminds us to be aware of what is to come by studying and living out Scripture.
How might you wait & watch by studying Scripture?
Reading 1: Sirach 3:2-6, 12-14 Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 128:1-2, 3, 4-5 Reading 2: Colossians 3:12-21 Gospel: Luke 2:41-52

Rev. Steven Henriksen
Reconnecting Through Art In the past six bulletins, I took a look at ways to reconnect to our own needs, those of our families and friends, and with your parish. I have offered a set of articles that tried to tell the story of who we are at St. Michael through data and commentary; Celebration of Sacraments - introducing facts and figures as well as images of these underlying
signs of grace; Showing gratitude, including my personal thanks for those whom I am grateful; The impact of the pandemic upon Mental Health and how we can work together to meet the
challenges of this genuine public health crisis; Caring for our youngest parishioners by expanding our child care program located in the Father
McCauley Child Care Center; Youth Ministry has developed on our campus and the need for full parish support (time, talent &
treasure) of the programs that seek to accompany our young parishioners. Finally, I would like to draw our attention to an opportunity to reconnect through the beauty of sacred art. I recently had a chance to reflect on Duccio's Maesta, an altarpiece produced during the 13th century. It was common for churches to display paintings of the Blessed Mother on a throne, with the Baby Jesus in her lap, often flanked with angels with striking images of heaven; during the Middle Ages. This image of Mary, Queen of the Universe, has captured my imagination this Advent. Art, such as Duccio's Madonna, has a tenderness and a human quality that draws our hearts and minds closer to God through the gift of awe and wonder. Following the lead of our Art and Environment committee, this community is intentional about creating an atmosphere of sacred beauty. I encourage you to wander the sacred spaces on campus with wonder in the remaining days of Advent. Reconnecting is far beyond a process of returning and recommitting to a single parish. It is a product of our heart's longing: to reconnect with the God of all ages! May this Advent be a time of reconnection for us all! Father Steven

Feeding Our Faith — Learning the Gospel
Sacraments: A One Time Event or Daily Life?
Mass...the more you know—Liturgy of the Word. The Liturgy of the Word, is the second movement of the mass just after the Introductory Rites. In this liturgy, our public work or demonstration of worship happens through selections from Sacred Scripture, reflection on meaning in the homily, a profession of faith and prayers of the faithful. God meets us in the Word. As a community we listen, seek to understand, state the core tenants of our faith and then join in prayer for the Universal Church. Remember that Jesus is “the Word made flesh [who] dwelled among us.” (Jn 1:14). May this be a reminder that the Liturgy of the Word works WITH the Liturgy of the Eucharist to make Jesus present in our lives. In the Liturgy of the Word our hearts & minds are fed by Sacred Scripture further helping us to be ready to physically receive Jesus into our bodies in the Eucharist. Participation in the Creed is our verbal response and recommitment to what has been revealed by God through Sacred Scripture. It is our statement
acknowledging the Church’s Sacred Tradition. Finally, the Universal Prayer of the Church (Prayers of the Faithful) reflect our human needs, offered to God in petition, an act of humility, hope and faith which is inspired by Jesus who is the Word. Interested in learning more about how readings are selected and arranged in the lectionary? Check out —> https://www.usccb.org/offices/new-american-bible/liturgy
This week make an extra effort to listen attentively to what God is saying through Scripture. As a final preparation for Christmas, read & meditate on the Scripture passages for Mass.
