First Baptist Book Club
Our January selection is A Common Struggle, by Patrick Kennedy and Stephen Fried. This book describes Patrick Kennedy’s struggle with mental illness and addiction. The meeting will be on Monday, January 11 at 7:00 pm at Lee and Carolyn Carlsons’s home, 4705 Balmoral. Copies of the book are available at Amazon, Lawrence Public Li-brary, and Johnson County Library. We will not be meet-ing in December because of Christmas events and travel plans.
The roots of RMMO go back to the mid-1930s, when American Baptist congregations received a Communion Fellowship Offer-ing on the first Sunday of each month to support retired minis-ters, missionaries, their widowed spouses and elderly clergy with-in their churches. In 1977 American Baptist Churches USA launched the Retired Min-isters and Missionaries Offering (RMMO) to continue this time-honored tradition of expressing thankfulness. This year our theme is The Grace
of Giving. The offering supports those who have dedicated their lives to God’s service by providing emergency assistance in times of need and a thank you check at the end of each year . You will find an RMMO envelope in your bulletins through Dec. 20. ~FBC Missions ministry
Grocery Cards Year-Round
ABY is selling grocery cards on a regular basis again! This simple ongoing fundraiser gives a helpful boost to the youth for their summer trip to Quest, and it costs you abso-lutely nothing--just money that you spend at the store any-way for groceries, gas, prescriptions, etc.! We have HyVee and Dillons cards in $25, $50, and $100 denominations, and Checkers $10 certificates. (FYI, the stores sell cards/certificates to ABY at a discount, at the following percentages: Checkers, 6%; Hy-Vee, 6%; Dil-lons, 4%.) Ways to buy them: 1. Look for Susan Pauls or Brenda Schenkel after late ser- vice at the back of the narthex. 2. Wednesday nights--find Susan or Brenda, and they will get them out for you. 3. Stop by the office and ask to purchase them any time during the week. 4. Contact Susan (785-550-4250) or Brenda (785-865- 8181), let us know what you need, and we will arrange to get them to you/collect payment.
Year End Giving In order for giving to be credited to 2015, contributions must be received in the church office by Dec 31st or mailed with a postmark no later than Dec 31st. (Please keep in mind the church office will be open limited hours Dec. 28-Jan. 1.) ~Sally Heilman, Financial Secre-tary
