New Year’s Resolutions

New Year’s Resolutions• resolution – a firm commitment to do or not do

something; a promise to yourself• 40 to 45% of American adult make one or more

resolutions each year.• Among the top new years resolutions are resolutions to

lose weight, exercise more, stop smoking, have better money management, reduce debt, and be less stressed.

New Year’s Resolutions• The average person maintains their

resolution…- past the first week: 75%- past 2 weeks: 71%- after one month: 64%- after 6 months: 46%

• While a lot of people who make new years resolutions do break them, research shows that making resolutions is useful. People who explicitly make resolutions are 10 times more likely to attain their goals than people who don't explicitly make resolutions.

New Year’s Resolutions• Journal for 8 minutes about three resolutions:

• ONE resolution related to family/friends/classmates• ONE resolution related to school work/academics/goals• ONE resolution related to just you personally

• Spend 2-4 minutes on each resolution. Consider:• Why is this resolution important for you to make?• What obstacles will you face in keeping this resolution?• How can you hold yourself accountable for keeping this

resolution?

Its time to study!
