Dance Dress Code

Why do we have a dress code?

HF staff and administration want you to make

good choices. We are not trying to inhibit your

style.

Dances should be fun, but we want everyone

to be comfortable and safe.

With modesty in mind, the following dress

code guidelines will be enforced at all

HF High School Dances

Formal attire for males may be classified as a

tuxedo or dress suit, including a tie, bow tie,

a turtle neck, a shirt, and may include a vest

or cummerbund. Shirts are to be worn at all

times. Dress shoes or dress boots must be

worn while in any public building. Tennis

shoes, Timberland type boots, and athletic

shoes are unacceptable for formal dances.

#1Dresses may not be cut below the bust line.

The bust continues around your sides directly under the armpit.With arms down at your side, if flesh touches flesh below the bust

line, the dress is inappropriate.

Unacceptable Dresses

Dresses may be backless as long as they are not cut

below the naval, or your natural waist.

Please note how thebust is covered on thesides.

With your arms down by your side, if skin from your arms touches (or can touch)skin on the front part of your body, below the bust line, the dress is inappropriate.

#3Midriffs will not be

exposed.

This includes both frontand/or side.

Again, with arms down at yourside, if flesh touches flesh in

the midriff section, thedress is inappropriate.

This dress meets dress code.

Unacceptable dresses for midriff exposure.

These dresses DO NOT meet dress code for midriff exposure.

YOU WOULD BE ASKED TO LEAVE.

#4Dresses may not be

shorter than, nor have aslit that exceeds mid

thigh as determined byour standard 4”

above-the-knee rule (p54-55 in the HF

Parent-student Handbook).

Unacceptable dresses for length (split).

These dresses DO NOT meet dress code for appropriate length.

YOU WOULD BE ASKED TO LEAVE.

Other Dress Code Rules

Entire dress lengths may not be constructed with see-through fabrics such as: Tulle, Netting, or Illusion (skin color inserts).

No pinning (or pulling) will be allowed as an alteration for a dress if without the pins (or pulling) the dress does not meet the dress code.

Fabric inserts must be sewn as alterations to the dress.

No cover-ups (shawls/wraps, sweaters, coats) will be allowed over dresses that do not meet the dress code.

Undergarments should not be visible.

Dance Pictures

Attire for pictures taken at the dance must

also meet dress code. You may not wear

inappropriate attire to take pictures and then

change into attire that does meet code for

the dance.

While we will be reasonable in our interpretation of

these guidelines. You will not be allowed to enter

the dance if you are dressed inappropriately and

there is NO refund of the ticket cost.

Most importantly, this dress code does not limit

your ability to show your style and uniqueness.

High school dances are a time to exude

class, sophistication and elegance!
