JAMMU, Sept 1: PushkarAmawas was celebrated with reli-gious fervor today.

In this connection a functionwas organized by Magam BangilSabha here under the chairman-ship of T N Bhat. On the occasionpooja -archana was also per-formed and the significance of theday was highlighted by the speak-ers.

Speaking in the function RajNath Raina president of the Sabhasaid that prior to migration the daywas celebrated at the shrine atKhag in tehsil Beeru of Budgamdistrict of Kashmir valley by theSabha. He said the descriptionabout the festival is fully given inNeelmat Puran and the day is cel-ebrated since Puranic period.

The function was also attend-ed by Choni Lal Garu, Moti Laland R N Raina the other membersof the Sabha.

KRTA, AIBCU demand meeting with Parliamentary delegation

JAMMU, Sept 1: Variousorganizations have demandedthat they be also invited by AllParliamentary delegation visit-ing State on September 4.

Kashmiri Refugee TradersAssociation (KRTA) and AllIndia Backward Classes Union(AIBCU) in their separate state-ments have demanded that theirviews be also sought as they tooare the victims of the turmoil.

KRTA in a statement issuedhere, today said that they havebeen worst sufferers of the tur-moil after losing their businessdue to mass exodus and turmoilin Kashmir as they were forcedto leave the Valley in 1989-90.

The Association alleged thatsuccessive State and CentralGovernments failed to redressthe problems of displacedtraders and agriculturists andtake measures for their rehabili-tation with the result thesetraders and agriculturists havebeen facing hardships in makingtheir body and soul together.

The Association demandedthat the members of displacedtraders and agriculturists beallowed to chose their represen-tatives to meet the Parliamentary

delegation to seek redressal oftheir problems.

AIBCU leaders Prof KaliDass and M R Bangotra saidthat the political parties are notthe ultimate organizationswhose views can be sought onthe prevailing situation in theState to suggest measures inresolving the crisis but there areregistered and recognized socialorganizations including AIBCUof the State and senior citizenswhose views can also be sought.

Youth consumespoison

SAMBA, Sept 1: One youthconsumed poison at his resi-dence in Rangoon camp inRamgarh area of Samba districtlate last night under mysteriouscircumstances.

He has been identified asHardeep Singh, 30, S/oMahander Singh of RangoorCamp, Ramgarh.

Police said he was firstshifted to Ramgarh Hospital fortreatment where from doctorsreferred him to GMC Jammuwhere his condition is stated tobe serious.

The Ramgarh Police hasregistered a case under relevantSections of the law.

JAMMU, Sept 1: Policearrested a driver along withbanned polythene bags.

As per police sources, onspecific information, a teamfrom Nehru Market police postlaid a naka and intercepted aMahindra Bolero bearing regis-tration number JK21A-5146.

During checking, policerecovered 10 quintals bannedpolythene bags from the vehicleand arrested the driver, who hasbeen identified as KaranChoudary, son of Ronak Ram, aresident of Kaintpur, tehsilVijaypur.

A case under Section 188RPC has been registered atGandhi Nagar police station andinvestigation started.

Theft in bankemployee’s house

JAMMU, Sept 1: Thievesdecamped with cash, gold andsilver ornaments from the houseof a bank employee in Gadigarharea, falling under the jurisdic-tion of Satwari police station.

As per police sources, bur-glars struck in the house atGadigarh in broad day light anddecamped with cash, gold andsilver ornaments.

The owner of the house,who is a bank employee, report-ed the matter to police.

Govt school sanswater supply

Govt school at Kharorian village,having more than 100 children, iswithout water supply for the lastone week.

Reports said the water supplyto Govt Girls’ Middle School,Kharorian in Udhampur Zone,has been snapped for the last overone week. The children andschool staff has been forced tofetch drinking water from a springwhich is about 2 kms away. TheSchool headmaster RajeshSharma alleged that he took upthe matter with the PHESupervisor and JE concerned MrMaqsood but no action has beentaken. The water supply could notbe restored till today. He said thathe was using his own car forfetching water in buckets alongwith students from the spring.The school water tank is lying dryand the toilets have turned dirtywithout water usage. He soughtintervention of concerned SE andXEn PHE.

Migrant employees block road, raise slogans against Govt

JAMMU, Sept 1:Demanding their absorption invarious Government depart-ments in Jammu, KashmiriPandit employees who fled fromKashmir valley due to thealleged stone pelting by mobs ontheir transit camps, todayblocked road and burnt an effigyof the State Government.

As their protest entered the51th day today, more than 1600Kashmiri Pandit employeesblocked the Talab Tillo road forseveral hours and raised slogansagainst the Government, alleg-ing that it was not serious abouttheir plight.

Accusing the Government of“step-motherly treatment”towards them, the protestersdemanded adjustment to pack-age employees in Jammu till acomprehensive plan for theirreturn and rehabilitation wasframed.

“Not a single official fromthe Government has visited theprotest site to talk to us. We arebeing given the step-motherlytreatment,” chairman of the AllParties Migrant CoordinationCommittee (APMCC) VinodPandit said.

Pandit said the situation inKashmir was “not conducive”for the return of the employeesand “they have decided to returnonly when the entire communityis rehabilitated in the Valley”.

More than 1600 KashmiriPandit employees who wereworking in various Governmentdepartments under the PrimeMinister’s rehabilitation pack-age in the Kashmir valleyreturned to Jammu after theirtransit camps were allegedlyattacked by stone pelting mobafter the killing of HizbulMujahideen commander BurhanWani on July 8.

UDHAMPUR, Sept 1: Aidle aged man was found deadunder mysterious circum-stances near Devika temple,here today.

Identity of the deceasedcould not be ascertained. Hewas found lying near Devikatemple and on beinginformed by some locals,Police shifted him to DistrictHospital Udhampur wheredoctors declared him asbrought dead.

Later, the dead body wasshifted to hospital mortuaryfor identification and legal for-malities.

Railways offers Rs 10lakh insurance cover

for train travelNEW DELHI, Sept 1:

The railways today launched ascheme allowing a person to get aninsurance cover of upto Rs 10 lakhon booking a train ticket online bypaying less than one rupee.

A person booking a train ticketthrough the IRCTC website will beable to opt for travel insurance coverfor a premium of 92 paise only.

Railway Minister SureshPrabhu had in his budget speech,announced that the railways willprovide optional travel insurancefor train journey at the time ofbooking.

The new facility will be avail-able to all passengers, excludingthose travelling by suburbantrains while booking online irre-spective of the class.

The cover will not be applicablefor children upto 5 years of age andforeign citizens. It will be for pas-sengers holding tickets such as con-firmed, RAC and wait-listed ones.

The scheme offers trav-ellers/nominees/legal heirs acompensation of Rs 10 lakh inthe event of death or total dis-abilty, Rs 7.5 lakh for partial dis-ability, upto Rs 2 lakh for hospi-talisation expenses and Rs10,000 for transportation of mor-tal remains from the place of atrain accident or where an unto-ward incident, including terroristattack, dacoity, rioting, shootoutor arson, occurs.
