HISTORY

It is believed to be the place where deity Aphrodite was born.

Cyprus, though a small island, has always played an important role in the history of the Mediterranean.

It has a strategic position in the Mediterranean Sea.

The island was also subject to many invasions and the culture is a mixture of influences from many worlds.

Persians, Roman, Frankish, Venetian, Ottoman, British and Turkish are some of the Cyprus’ conquers.

In 1st of October 1960, Cyprus gains independence and becomes 99th member of the United Nations.

Makarios becomes the first president of the Cyprus.

Since 20th of July 1974 after the Turkish invasion, Cyprus is divided into two parts: the Greek-Cypriot part and Turkish-Cypriot part.

Since 1st of May 2004 Cyprus became a member of the European Union.

A few information about CyprusCyprus has 6 big cities. Nicosia , Limassol , Larnaca , Pafos , Famagusta and Kyrenia. The Capital City is Nicosia .

The weather is usually sunny and for this reason people go to various cities like Protaras, Ayia Napa and Paralimni .

Nicos Anastasiades is the current president of Cyprus.

The currency of Cyprus is the Euro.

Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean.

The biggest mountains in Cyprus are Pentadactylos and Troodos.

things.

most popular sport in Cyprus and most Cypriot men love to play. Since the availability of full-size football fields is scarce, in the last ten years, the futsal scene has exploded in Cyprus.
