1. Welcome
The football season and training returns this Friday and weekend after an exhausting two rounds
prior to the school holidays. Since the last newsletter the only game to occur was the triumphant
3-2 Youth team victory. Our U14 Youths played their first home game at their new ground at
Huonville. University ventured down to our shores seeking their first victory of the season. With no
referee turning up to officiate the match (generally there is an official referee provided however
Huonville must have been a town too distant this time round) both teams provided a ref for the
two halves.
We got off to a flyer after Rowan scored and a brace from Christian saw us take a 3-1 lead into
the half. With Co-coach George having to hide his bias and don the whistle in the second half, it
was left to me to scream and panic while the kids hung on for victory. Within 5 minutes of the 2nd
half, the score was 3-2 and University had the better of play. With University pushing for the
equalizing goal and their first points of the season, the game really opened up with a number of
counter attacks by the Sea Dragons thwarted from either good defence or a lack of polish from
our guys.
The game highlighted just how much our defence has improved from our first training season in
March. Hannah, Josh and Silas were gallant with a number of strong chases to see off the
rampaging University strikers. Brady also was excellent in defence and we missed him in the 2nd
half when he went into goals.
In the end we were victorious and now sit in 4th on the ladder. Fortunately Olympia has moved
up a division after putting in a polished performance to trounce Kingborough 19-1 (we beat
Kingborough 6-0 the week before).

Above is only for Juniors
The roster for Juniors has been released for Round 3 to 6 and these can be found further on in
the team section. The Youth roster has been compiled for the rest of the season. Note this can
change and if it does we will let you know.
Don’t forget to tune into our facebook page. Alison will be looking for people from certain teams playing home to man the canteen this weekend. http://www.facebook.com/CygnetSeaDragons

A man who views the world the same at fifty as he did at twenty has wasted thirty years of his life.

• Recycling one glass jar, saves enough energy to watch T.V for 3 hours.
• Reindeer like to eat bananas.
• Research indicates that mosquitoes are attracted to people who have recently eaten bananas.
• Rubber bands last longer when refrigerated.

THE FOOTBALL RAMBLER
Longest football bans: Luis Suarez the latest in a conspicious list
The FA have slapped Liverpool striker Luis Suarez with a 10-match ban following his bite on
Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic during the 2-2 in the Premier League. Remember, Suarez
has already served an 8-match ban in 2011 after racially abusing Patrice Evra.
The Anfield (Liverpool home ground) Ace is the latest in a long line of players to feel the wrath of
the authorities; here are the top football bans in recent times.
Joey Barton – 12 matches
After being shown a red card for elbowing Carlos Tevez, Barton was found guilty of trying to
knee Sergio Aguero and head-butt Vincent Kompany. These additional two charges of violent
conduct, added to the dismissal, resulted in a 12-match ban for the former Newcastle man, and
put his career at the London club at risk. He was subsequently loaned to Marseille in France for

the 2013 season with his club QPR recently being relegated from the Premier League. He is a
twat but QPR could have used his midfield muscle!!!!
Eric Cantona – 9 months
The mercurial French attacker was given a nine-month worldwide ban from the game in 1995
after his famed kung-fu kick on Crystal Palace fan Matthew Simmons at Selhurst Park. The
Manchester United forward was also ordered to complete 120 hours of community service after
the shocking act.
Paolo Di Canio – 11 matches
Fiery Sheffield Wednesday forward Paolo Di Canio (now Manager of Sunderland) was on the
sidelines for 11 matches after pushing referee Paul Alcock to the ground in September 1998.
After being dismissed in a league fixture against Arsenal, the Italian pushed the official to the
deck, and was also handed a £10,000 fine for the act of petulance.
Luis Suarez – 10 matches
Even though Luis Suarez played a sensational part in bringing back Liverpool from the brink of
defeat and earning a crucial point against Chelsea, his performance was overshadowed by his
unusual assault (biting – see picture) on Branislav Ivanovic. After apologising to the Serbian
defender and being fined by the club, Suarez was issued a 10-match ban by the Football
Association. He had already previously been banned for biting (7 week ban) 2 years previous
playing for Ajax.
Kevin Keegan and Billy Bremner – 10 matches
Keegan and Bremner were both on the sidelines for 10 matches after coming to blows in the
1974 Charity Shield between Liverpool and Leeds. The pair were involved in a fight on the hour
mark of the game, and both dismissed.
David Prutton – 10 matches
Southampton man David Prutton was given a ten-match ban for shoving referee Alan Wiley
after his dismissal against Arsenal in the Premier League in 2005. The Saints midfielder was also
handed out a £6,000 fine.
Paul Davis – 9 matches
The Arsenal midfielder was given a nine-match ban for punching Glenn Cockerill in October
1998, breaking the Southampton man’s jaw. Davis was sent off and ordered to pay a £3,000 fine
by the FA.
Billy Cook – 12 month ban
The Middlesbrough player was banned for a year in 1915 when he refused to leave the field of
play after being sent off against Oldham; the game had to be abandoned with 35 minutes
remaining.

Mark Bosnich – 7 months
The Australian goalkeeper was banned for seven months after testing positive for cocaine in
2003. Chelsea terminated his contract after the scandal.
Rio Ferdinand – 8 months
The Manchester United defender failed to show up for a drugs test and was duly handed an
eight month ban in September 2003.
Luis Suarez (again) – 8 matches
The Liverpool forward was found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United’s Patrice Evra in a
Premier League clash between the two in October 2011. After a drawn-out investigation the FA
handed down an eight-match ban for the Uruguay international and gave him a £40,000 fine.
Edgar Davids and Jaap Stam – 4 months
The Juventus midfielder and Lazio defender had their bans for testing positive for banned
substance nandrolone reduced from five months to four months in May 2001 and January 2002
respectively.
Dean Windass – 6 matches
The Aberdeen striker was effectively sent off three times in the first-half of a 5-0 defeat to Dundee
United in 1997. Windass was dismissed for two bookable offences, abused the referee and
ripped out a corner flag in the SPL fixture.
Roy Keane – 5 weeks
The aggressive Manchester United midfielder was handed a five-week ban in October 2002 for
comments made in his autobiography concerning Alfie Inge Haaland. The Irishman was also
fined £150,000.
Vinnie Jones – 6 months
The Wimbledon midfielder and now movie star Jones was handed a six-month ban in November
1992 and fined £20,000 for his comments glorifying football violence.
Ben Thatcher – 8 matches
The Manchester City defender was banned for eight matches after a sickening elbow on
Portsmouth’s Pedro Mendes. The Portuguese midfielder was knocked out cold and suffered a
seizure after Thatcher’s challenge in August 2006.

Joey Barton – 12 matches (again)
Barton was given a 12 match ban, later six of which were suspended, for assaulting Manchester
City team-mate Ousmane Dabo in training. Barton was charged with assault, given a four-month
suspended jail sentence and fined £25,000.
For a summary of the twat Joey Barton is, watch this.

Kolo Toure – 6 months
The Manchester City central defender was given a six-month suspension for failing a drugs test in
March 2011. The Ivory Coast international later claimed that he has taken one of his wife’s diet
pills.

THE ROYAL RANT
For those new to ‘The Best Little Soccer Club in Tasmania’ there is a section
within
‘The Green Weekly’ called ‘The Royal Rant’. This was an opportunity for our
esteemed founder and first President - George Wilson, to inflict his
Pythonesque humour on unsuspecting parents (I am sure that no child read
it…let alone understood it!)
To date in 2013 our current President has deigned to offer his literary skills; so as President of Vice I
will do so.
In the recent school holidays a 2 day intensive skills clinic was organised by Rod Parish. It was run
by Anthony Alexander who is the Southern Development Officer – Football Federation Tasmania
and Shae Hickey – Vice Captain at South Hobart FC and a Tasmanian state team
representative. Also on hand to help were Sea Dragon fathers Albie Hooper, Chris Atkinson and
Rod himself. 29 kids attended day one and twenty eight of them came back on day two, which
was a great result given that the weather was not brilliant.
I would like to publicly acknowledge the effort of Alby and Chris and especially of Rod in
organising and implementing this clinic. The Australian Sports Commission notes that:
“Sport in Australia is supported by around 1.7 million volunteers who donate their time to sporting
clubs and competitions around the country. These people fulfill roles as diverse as coaches,
officials, team managers, administrators, committee members and more”
The contribution of Rod, Alby and Chris is integral to building an ‘espirit d’coeur’ within our club
and is much appreciated.
Well Done Fellas.

Message for All Parents (and Kids): If your child is unable to play for any reason please contact your team coach or reply to Dave Sayers who
will pass message on as if we know in time we may be able to get a player from one of the other teams to
double up and therefore we avoid playing short or having to borrow from the other team. Telephone
numbers/email of team coaches above fixtures, results and scorers – item 9.
7. Canteen roster (Coordinator – Alison Nicholas – contact details below):
We are now calling for volunteers for canteen roster. Please let Alison know when you can
volunteer.
Volunteering for canteen is easy and a great way for soccer parents to catch up with others!
This weekend we have seven home games. If each family (without coaching commitments)
can help out one Saturday during the term the canteen will run at its best (and most profitable).
Instructions for Volunteers:
What to do?
One of the volunteers needs to buy/bring :
-500ml milk
-4 loaves of bread
-dozen free range eggs (to go with our free range bacon!!!)
-sliced onion
Please work out who will do this amongst your group.
Please take along 2 tea towels, and the receipts for the items above so you can get your
money back.
Bacon and sausages are supplied by Alison (thanks to Boks and Nicholas butchery) at
training on Friday or Saturday morning.
If more sausages etc. are required on the day they can be purchased locally in Cygnet.
Please arrive 15mins before first game starts.
When you get there the canteen will be unlocked. All the stock and supplies are in plastic
boxes on the table. Setup; cook bacon first, and eggs to order for the egg and bacon
sangers; cook onion and sausages, serve then clean up and put everything back.
It is always fantastic if there are home-made muffins, scones or biscuits but only bring these if
you want to...
Thanks for your support!

Cygnet Sea-Dragon Victory Song
Chorus:
Green is the Colour
Football is the Game
We’re all together
And winning is our aim
So cheer us on
Through the sun and the rain
For Cygnet, Cygnet is our name
Verse 1:
Here by the Huon whether rain or fine
We can shine
All the time
Home or away
Come and see us play
You’re welcome any day.
Repeat Chorus
To Finish:
What do we eat?
Seaweed
How do we eat it?
Raw
