Homework
Reading (20 minutes per night, M - Th)
Monday: Spelling packet due Wed.
Tuesday: Math due Wed.
Wednesday: Reading/Language due Thurs.
Thursday: Math due Fri.
The expectation for your child
entering 3rd grade: Fluency of addition
and subtraction facts through 20.
Reading
Research based instruction in phonemic awareness,
phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension.
We will incorporate the following into our
reading instruction:
Whole Group
Small Group
Partner Reading
Literature Studies
Independent Reading
AZ’s Move on When Reading
AZ state law:
Third grade students that score far below the
third grade level on the state adopted reading
test will NOT be promoted to fourth grade.
Exceptions: Some ELL and IEP students
Your student’s performance will be regularly
monitored throughout the year.
You will be notified as early as possible if we
have a concern about your child.

Kyrene School District has adopted the Trophies spelling
program to go along with the reading program. This
focuses on word families and story words.
Each week:
Each Monday, students will be given a Spelling Preview where
they are given word family words. We will correct it together. They
will take home this list of words in their home binder.
Spelling homework: practice the words using Spelling City at
www.spellingcity.com or by another method of your choice.
Each Friday there will be a Spelling Test!

Fun FridayEach Friday, students have the opportunity to participate in
Fun Friday.
Fun Friday includes a choice of an activity, such as games,
art, or computer. Students who have not earned Fun
Friday will go to Study Hall.
Students earn Fun Friday by:
Completing and turning in all homework
Completing and turning in all class work
Acceptable behavior for the week
Parent Drop off
• Please drop off between the cross walks. Pull up as far as possible. Do not let your students out before the crosswalk.
• If you pull into the lot and park, please walk your student across the crosswalk.
• Please be patient when waiting to pull into the lot. There is only one
line of traffic that is pulling in from the street.
• Students should be ready to exit the car when the time is
• appropriate.
